Formula: unplanned absent person-days ÷ scheduled person-days × 100. Jobiba compares against your own target instead of assigning a universal good/bad label.

Use person-time

For a team, scheduled capacity is employees × scheduled workdays. Sum unplanned absence across the same people and period.

Keep leave definitions stable

Planned leave, holidays and long approved absences can distort an operational absence trend when one month counts them and another does not.

Compare your own trend

Industry averages can hide shift, site and role differences. Start with a consistent internal definition and target.

Absenteeism FAQs

What is the absenteeism rate formula?

Absenteeism rate equals unplanned absent person-days divided by total scheduled person-days for the same period, multiplied by 100.

Should annual leave count as absenteeism?

For an operational unplanned-absence measure, planned holiday and approved leave are normally kept separate. State your policy and use the same definition every period.

Can I use hours instead of days?

Yes. The same ratio works with absent hours and scheduled hours, but do not mix hours in the numerator with days in the denominator.

What is a good absenteeism rate?

There is no universal rate that is appropriate for every workforce. Role mix, shifts, industry, leave policy and seasonality matter, so Jobiba compares the result with the target you enter and your own trend.
