Lyft
📍 Toronto• Full-time• From C$172K/yr

At Lyft, our purpose is to serve and connect. We aim to achieve this by cultivating a work environment where all team members belong and have the opportunity to thrive. As the Engineering Manager for the Lakehouse Foundation team, you will lead a group of engineers responsible for the foundational data layer that all of Lyft's data systems and emerging AI workloads are built on. The team owns catalog and metadata management, table formats and storage, and the access patterns and gateways through which other engineering teams interact with Lyft's data. As Lyft converges on a unified lakehouse architecture, this team builds and operates the single source of truth that powers analytics, machine learning, experimentation, and every business decision made from data. You will play a key role in shaping the team's technical direction, partnering with peer Data Platform teams on a multi-year platform evolution, and developing engineers who operate with autonomy on systems of significant scale and complexity. Lyft's Infrastructure teams build the foundational systems that the rest of engineering depends on to move fast, ship reliably, and scale efficiently. These are high-leverage roles where the work you and your team do has a multiplicative effect across the company. We're looking for experienced leaders who can balance the discipline of operating critical infrastructure with the curiosity to keep evolving how Lyft builds. Engineering at Lyft is a place where managers and engineers operate with high ownership and strong technical judgment. Our engineers expect their managers to be honest, available, and focused on the work that matters: developing their teams, removing obstacles, and giving people the support they need to do their best work. We build teams that are inclusive, technically rigorous, and have a strong sense of ownership for what they build. Responsibilities: Lead a team responsible for Lyft's foundational data layer, including catalog and metadata management,

ABOUT THE TEAM The Data Modeling team builds and maintains the core data models and metrics that power decision-making across Mural. We are part of the Data Organization and focus on creating shared, reusable data models that represent key product and business concepts and are used across the company. Our work supports internal analytics, customer insight reports embedded in the product, and AI/ML model training. We partner closely with Product, Engineering, Data Platform, Business Analytics, Data Science, and Analytics Engineering to ensure the company is working from consistent definitions, high data quality, and reliable data availability. We are a small, high-leverage team focused on building durable data foundations rather than one-off solutions. YOUR MISSION You will own the delivery and evolution of Mural’s core data models and shared metrics, with a strong focus on data quality, reliability, and availability. This is a hands-on leadership role. You will not build stakeholder-specific data marts or ad-hoc analyses. Instead, you will focus on building foundational, reusable data models and metric definitions that support many use cases across the company. Your success will be measured by how widely trusted, consistently available, and broadly reused the data models and metrics you own are across teams such as Business Analytics, in-product insights, and ML. WHAT YOU'LL DO Own and evolve core data models and metrics: Define and maintain shared models for product usage, customers, accounts, and key business metrics that support analytics, in-product customer insights, and AI/ML model training Build and operate foundational data products: Stay hands-on building models using SQL, Python, and Spark in a modern lakehouse environment (e.g., Databricks), with strong attention to data quality, availability, performance, and cost Define shared semantics: Design and maintain shared metric definitions and semantic layers so data is interpreted consistently across teams an

About The Role & Team Amplitude is only as useful as the data inside it. The Data Connections team owns how that data gets in and out — importing behavioral and customer data from cloud data warehouses like Snowflake, Databricks, and BigQuery, from cloud object storage like S3 and Azure Blob Storage, and pushing enriched event data back out to warehouses, object storage, streaming destinations, and downstream advertising and marketing platforms. That means batch and streaming pipelines moving billions of events a day, connections that have to keep working across dozens of customer-controlled systems, credentials and configuration that have to stay correct and secure, and latency and reliability targets that customers build their own pipelines on top of. Recent work includes launching new warehouse export destinations, migrating our import pipelines onto a durable workflow engine, building low-latency streaming export, and supporting cross-region and cross-cloud customer storage. You'll lead a team of around 10 engineers building this, reporting to our Head of Data Platform, and you'll be the person accountable for the roadmap, the reliability, and the growth of the people on it. The stack is Java, Temporal, Kafka, Kubernetes, Terraform, DynamoDB, S3, and Snowflake, running on AWS and GCP. Responsibilities Set the direction and roadmap for data import and export, with clear priorities and tradeoffs you can explain to engineers, PMs, and customers Lead, coach, and grow a team of around 10 engineers — hiring, career development, feedback, and performance Partner with your tech leads on architecture across ingestion, transformation, and delivery, without becoming the bottleneck for every decision Own reliability, SLOs, and cost efficiency for pipelines customers depend on daily Expand the set of destinations and sources we support, and make each new integration cheaper to build than the last Work directly with Product, Design, and other Data Platform teams to ship e
