Relocation salary decision
Salary vs Cost of Living Calculator
A bigger salary in another city is not automatically a better financial move. Compare estimated in-hand pay with the rent, household spending, commute and moving costs you actually expect, then see what is left each month.
1 · Baseline current life
2 · Destination offer
3 · Separate cost from cash lock-up
Model deposit and employer relocation support honestly
A refundable deposit still consumes cash today, but it is not treated as a permanent economic cost. Enter only support you have evidence for; reimbursement timing and clawback terms can change your actual cash need.
4 · Relocation verdict
Current setup retains more recurring cash
Salary lift 33.3% · recurring-cost lift 73.5%. Jobiba compares what remains after payroll and your entered costs, not a generic city index.
Ahmedabad surplus / mo
₹42,877
Bengaluru surplus / mo
₹31,012
Net monthly improvement
−₹11,865
First-year economic gain
−₹1,72,380
Permanent move cost
₹30,000
Upfront cash needed
₹1,30,000
Buffer after move
₹1,20,000
Economic break-even
No break-even
5 · Recovery deadline
6-month economic gain
−₹1,01,190
Upfront cash recovery
No recovery
Refundable deposit modeled
₹1,00,000
The permanent move cost is not recovered inside 6 months on the base inputs. Cash recovery can take longer because refundable deposits still lock up money.
6 · Stress test
What if destination costs run higher?
Stressed monthly improvement
−₹24,615
Stressed first-year gain
−₹3,25,380
Stressed break-even
No break-even
The recovery deadline fails under this cost scenario. Verify rent, commute, deposit and setup costs before relying on the headline hike.

Why this is different
No generic city index is deciding your life
Cost-of-living averages can be useful for research, but your rent, family size, commute and lifestyle matter more. This tool asks for your own estimate and shows how sensitive the move is to those numbers.
Use Jobiba market evidence next
Check whether the destination offer is competitive
After comparing disposable income, check the same role in both cities. Jobiba can show the current salary median, salary-by-experience ladder, skill-pay signals and up-to-five-year market movement when evidence is strong enough.
Questions worth asking before you relocate for salary
Should I compare CTC or in-hand salary between cities?
Use in-hand as the cash starting point, then subtract the recurring costs that change because of the move. CTC alone can exaggerate the difference.
What expenses should I include?
Start with rent, food, utilities, transport, parking, work meals and any recurring travel back home. Add one-time deposit and moving costs separately.
What if I do not know my new-city expenses yet?
Run at least two scenarios: a realistic estimate and a deliberately expensive case. If the move only works under the optimistic case, that is useful information.
Does a higher savings rate always mean the better job?
No. Career growth, family needs, work-life fit, learning, company stability and future earning potential can outweigh a small cash difference.
