About the role Synthesia Roleplay Sessions is a training tool that lets people practice real conversations with AI avatars. Instead of just watching training videos, learners do interactive roleplay exercises, like practicing a sales pitch or handling a customer complaint with an AI coach. The AI gives instant feedback so people know what they did well and what to improve. Managers can use a dashboard to track which employees have completed their training, see how well they performed, and measure if the training actually improved their skills. The whole platform is built around learning by doing rather than just passive video watching. For your ML engineer role, you'd be building the AI engine that makes the coaching work. That means creating the models that listen to what learners say during roleplay, score their performance, generate helpful feedback in real time, and decide how the AI avatar should respond next based on what the learner does. This is an applied ML position, not a research one . About the role The Data team manages the complete lifecycle of data for researchers - from sourcing and large-scale processing to delivering datasets that power our models. Data sits at the heart of our Research efforts and enables all other teams. As part of the Data team, you’ll work with over a million hours of video and audio data. This role exists at the intersection of applied research, data engineering, and ML infrastructure rather than being a traditional research position . You’ll build the world’s best human-centric data lake by collaborating closely with our model training teams. We protect users and the wider world by developing responses to complex harms and building the harm protections needed for new product and model launches. Integrity’s work spans not only across frontier harms like biological weapons and cybersecurity, but also high severity abuses such as child safety, nation-state misuse, and violence. About the Role Protection Scientists within Integrity design, orchestrate, and mature systems of defence against usage harms enabled by OpenAI's products. We are systems thinkers that combine deep harm domain expertise with breadth across investigation, data science, machine learning, policy and operations. Our distinctive strength is understanding how these disciplines fit together and translating between them to design and build effective systems of defence. Your core hands-on technical responsibility is harm detection. You will design, build, evaluate and maintain production detection systems, drawing on investigative expertise, data and shared engineering platforms. You will develop signals, classifiers and detection systems, and improve their ability to identify harmful activity accurately as products and behaviour evolve. You will also own the strategy and cross-functional delivery of protection work for a harm area or product launch. Working closely with investigators and other domain experts, you will ground the design in a deep understanding of how the harm occurs and translate that understanding into a system of defence. You will connect detection with policy, review, interventions, enforcement and measurement, continually calibrating the system against real cases and expert judgement as it scales.
