Architect (Data Centers & Workplace) - Memphis

SpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. Today, SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of making life multiplanetary and expanding consciousness to the stars. SpaceXSI is building Super Intelligence to help humanity understand the universe. Our teams are building the full Super Intelligence stack: from our Colossus supercomputers, to Grok models, to our suite of applications, including Grok Bot, Grok Build, Grok Imagine, Grok Voice, and X. We're creating a powerful flywheel where more compute trains better models, better models power more useful products, and what we learn from people using those products shapes what we build next. ABOUT THE ROLE: The Data Center Engineering team designs training and inference compute clusters from first principles, pushing thermal, electrical, and optical systems to the limit of physics. We operate as a highly cross disciplinary team comprised of mechanical, electrical, optical, and software engineers, all working to maximize the efficiency, reliability, and deployment speed of terrestrial compute to serve rapidly scaling demand. As a Network Connectivity Engineer, you will design, deploy, and qualify large scale fiber optic networks for hundreds of thousands of coherently connected GPUs. You’ll architect systems for maximum bandwidth and minimum latency, collaborating with optical, mechanical, and software engineers to translate your designs into the largest coherent computing networks in the world. RESPONSIBILITIES: Design and plan scalable, future-proof data center connectivity for clusters of hundreds of thousands of GPUs, including structured cabling plants that support evolving architectures and speeds beyond 800G. Procure fiber, copper, and other connectivity materials for new builds, expansions, and technology refreshes. Provide project management and construction

We're creating a powerful flywheel where more compute trains better models, better models power more useful products, and what we learn from people using those products shapes what we build next. ABOUT THE ROLE: As a member of the SpaceXSI construction team in Memphis, you will design, build, and activate some of the world’s most technically advanced electrical infrastructure — from high-voltage substations through medium-voltage distribution to low-voltage data center power systems and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). We execute complex electrical construction projects and infrastructure improvements from cradle to grave. You will operate with autonomy to solve diverse and complex power-system problems, excel at managing multiple projects at a time, and work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. You will work with other construction engineers, electrical contractors, equipment vendors, utilities, architects, and internal customers to deliver reliable, high-capacity electrical systems that support AI-scale compute. All SpaceX construction engineers serve additionally as project managers and supers — this is a construction management role per industry standards. The position is based in Memphis, TN. This role is focused on delivering the electrical backbone — from the high-voltage substation down to the low-voltage racks and BESS — that will power SpaceXSI's Memphis

ABOUT THE ROLE: As a member of the data center engineering team you will design, build, and activate some of the world’s most technically advanced data center facilities. You will be the subject matter expert on thermal management, pumping, flow control, HVAC, and other critical fluid systems. You will have the opportunity to apply your knowledge, experience, and creativity to develop novel solutions at the cutting edge of data center and compute technology. This role involves design, analysis, testing, and manufacturing of data center systems and support elements. You will work with other engineering disciplines, construction managers, architects and internal customers to both identify needs and accomplish goals. The position is based in Memphis, TN. RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for owning and being the subject matter expert on fluid/HVAC components across data center builds– chillers, pumps, dry coolers, chemical treatment, water storage, building pressurization, comfort heating/ cooling, heat exchangers, pumps, valves and systems. Perform CAD modeling and design of these systems. Deconflict your design with other disciplines in three dimensions. Perform fluid analyses

About the Team OpenAI’s Industrial Compute team is building and productizing infrastructure capabilities that help organizations deploy and operate advanced AI systems at scale. The team works across AI hardware, systems engineering, physical infrastructure, and customer delivery to turn emerging technologies into reliable, repeatable infrastructure solutions. Our work sits at the intersection of technical strategy, product development, engineering, and deployment. We partner closely with customers and internal engineering teams to solve complex infrastructure challenges spanning compute, power, cooling, controls, and facility efficiency. About the Role We are seeking a senior, hands-on Data Center Infrastructure Architect to develop and optimize the physical infrastructure required for large-scale AI deployments. This is a broad technical role spanning data center architecture, electrical and mechanical systems, high-density compute, controls, telemetry, and digital modeling. You will use simulation, operational data, and digital-twin approaches to evaluate infrastructure designs, identify system-level constraints, and improve efficiency, reliability, cost, and speed of deployment. The ideal candidate can move fluidly between first-principles analysis, facility and equipment design, computational modeling, engineering review, and real-world implementation. You should be comfortable working across disciplines rather than operating solely within electrical, mechanical, or software boundaries. Key Responsibilities Define system-level architectures for high-density AI data centers across power, cooling, IT equipment, controls, and facility infrastructure. Develop digital twins and other computational models that represent the behavior of data center systems under changing workloads, environmental conditions, equipment configurations, and failure scenarios. Use design and operational data to identify constraints, improve PUE and related efficiency metrics, and optimize
