The Customer Engagement and Docs platform team's objective is to help customers resolve their problems faster using AI / LLMs. We provide customers with precise and comprehensive solutions to their problems or build experiences to facilitate a seamless escalation to a support agent when necessary. As a Staff Engineer, you will operate at the intersection of Product development and Machine Learning. Responsibilities include gaining a deep understanding of user behavior; identifying factors contributing to problems; leveraging Product, Machine Learning (ML) and Large Language Models (LLMs) to analyze intricate technical use cases within a secure enterprise environment and eventually providing a path to resolving them. You’ll own features like multi-node training and products like serverless reinforcement learning (RL) from conception to MVP (and from MVP to GA!). You’ll work through the stack, architecting solutions from API and UI down to our infrastructure layer. You’ll fine tune models yourself to develop an understanding of user workflows. You’ll work closely with research engineers leveraging state-of-the-art training techniques to build experiences that accelerate model development and solve for real pain points. What you'll do The agent must collect and use a card number but can never see it. This work sits across four hard technical domains: payments, security, real-time voice, and LLMs. Voice is the core challenge. A caller speaks or types a card number in a live, low-latency audio stream, and the digits must never reach the model, while the model stays on the call. Sierra owns every system that touches card data, and one small team owns it end to end across three workstreams: Platform, Product, and Safety & Integrity. Customers keep their own telephony and payment gateways. Payments is live in production for some of the largest consumer enterprises, on a platform that handles hundreds of millions of calls a year. The platform is certified to PCI DSS Level 1.

About the Team The Infrastructure team builds and operates the foundations that power Decagon: networking, data, ML serving, developer platform, and real‑time voice. We partner closely with product, data, and ML to deliver high‑scale, low‑latency systems with clear SLOs and great developer ergonomics. We organize around four focus areas: Core Infra: The foundational cloud stack—networking, compute, storage, security, and infrastructure‑as‑code—to ensure reliability, scale, and cost efficiency. Data Infra: Streaming/batch data platforms powering analytics/BI and customer‑facing telemetry, including for customer‑managed and on‑prem environments.
