As a Lead AI Applied Engineer, you will provide technical leadership for AI-enabled products and platforms, define architectural direction, establish engineering standards, and personally design and build the most critical components of our systems. About the team The Applied AI Engineering team is responsible for ensuring the safe and effective deployment of Generative AI applications for developers and startups. We act as a trusted advisor and thought partner for our customers, working to build an effective backlog of GenAI use cases for their industry and drive them to production through strong technical guidance. OpenAI's customers represent a range of diverse backgrounds and maturity, from early-stage startups to late-stage startups. About the Role We are seeking a technically proficient, business-minded Applied AI Engineer to help push the frontier of advanced AI with our strategic startup customers. You'll work with some of the most exciting AI startups in the world, guiding them through ideation, development, delivery, and scaling to accelerate and maximize the value of what they build on our platform. You will have the opportunity to work on the most novel and creative use cases being built on our API, serving as a critical partner in collecting and delivering high-fidelity product and model feedback internally. You will collaborate closely with Sales, Solutions Engineering, Applied Research, and Product teams, and you will report to the Startups Applied AI Lead. When that alignment drifts, silicon faces the consequences: escapes, yield loss, and performance loss. We're hiring a Senior Manufacturing & System Co-Design Workflow Engineer to lead the methodology and infrastructure that maintains holistic, systematic alignment, at scale across the full portfolio. The strongest candidates in this role design the workflow before being asked to fix a program, and build the checks and automation that confirm alignment holds long after they've moved on to the next problem. What you’ll be doing: SMAC Workflow Methodology: Define manufacturing spec types, including schema and semantics, derived from system PORs and features. Own the methodology that governs how specification work gets structured, versioned, and validated across the program lifecycle. Production Python Pipelines & Automated Checks: Develop production-grade Python pipelines and automated checks that catch specification drift between system POR and manufacturing test programs ,ATE, SLT, BLT, L10+, before silicon exposes the discrepancy. The goal is that misalignments surface in the workflow, not on the tester. E2E Program Integration & TPM Attestation: Wire SMAC work into the end-to-end program spine, milestones, gates, and artifacts, and define explicit TPM-driven attestation when checks lag. About the Role We are looking for an Applied AI Engineer to help strategic partners design, build, evaluate, submit, launch, and maintain high-utility plugins for ChatGPT and Codex. This is a hands-on, partner-facing product engineering role for someone who can contribute to the platform itself, lead sophisticated partner engagements, and translate ambiguous product needs into production-ready integrations. You will work across partner product and engineering teams and OpenAI's product, engineering, partnerships, legal, policy, design, and go-to-market teams.
