The Trust team is responsible for developing the technology that helps protect our community and platform from fraud while also ensuring our hosts, guests, homes, and experiences meet our high standards. We constantly work to fight against online fraud (such as monetary loss, compromised accounts, spam and scam in messages, fake inventory, etc.) as well as offline fraud (theft, property damage, personal safety, etc.). We also work on onboarding and screening of users, and think about complex topics like identity and reputation to ensure that every interaction with Airbnb helps build trust in us and our community. You'll work side-by-side with talented product managers, data scientists, software engineers, fraud intelligence, and operations teams. Together, you'll design and build ML solutions that have direct, meaningful impact on user trust, business success, and the global Airbnb community. The Difference You Will Make: As a Senior Machine Learning Engineer on the Trust team, you will actively contribute code and ideas that shape the ML systems protecting millions of Airbnb users. We are seeking an experienced Senior Machine Learning Engineer to join our Safety ML team. This role focuses on building and deploying machine learning models that help keep Discord users safe, including real-time and batch systems for content understanding, risk evaluation, and account integrity. You will work closely with partners across product, engineering, design, policy, legal, and Trust and Safety to design and deliver effective ML solutions. This role reports to the Senior Manager of Machine Learning, Safety. What You'll Be Doing Analyze data to identify risk patterns and inform the design of machine learning models Build, iterate on, and evaluate models that detect risk and anomalous behavior Work with product, engineering, legal, and Trust and Safety partners to deliver effective ML solutions Work with partner teams in Trust & Safety to curate golden label sets at scale and improve data labeling techniques for model training Deploy models into production systems, writing backend code as needed to ensure scalability and reliability, and monitor performance Document modeling approaches and systems, and apply current machine learning best practices What you should have 4+ years of experience in ML engineering or applied ML roles. As the manager responsible for Safety ML, you will own the detection systems that sit between attackers and our users; real-time and batch models for content understanding, account integrity, and platform abuse.
