Role Overview: Building AI agents that can assist with any kind of enterprise work is a challenging, open-ended problem. One key piece of solving it is replicating real work environments as realistically as possible - filling them with hard tasks to solve, creating plausible input data, and defining clear rewards for completing the work the right way. We build many of these reinforcement learning (RL) environments, then drop our agents into them to evaluate or train them. In this role, you are responsible for creating these RL environments, running AI agents inside them, and improving both the agents and the environments in the process. The results reach customers, whose feedback feeds back in - and the agent/environment improvement loop continues. Key Responsibilities: There are many open problems in this space. North is Cohere’s AI workspace platform for enterprises: a secure, customizable environment where companies can use AI across their real workflows while maintaining control over sensitive data. As a Member of Technical Staff in the Safety for Agents team, you will make a meaningful impact on the development of better, fairer, more trustworthy, and more secure Large Language Models (LLMs). Your primary focus will be on data generation, post-training algorithms, and evaluation methods to ensure Safety in the next generation of models that can access external resources and take actions in the world. You will work closely with other cross-functional machine learning teams and data annotation teams, and will also collaborate with product and policy teams. This role combines expertise in machine learning, ethical and responsible AI, experimental design, and data generation and management. ABOUT THE ROLE: The Sandbox service team at SpaceXAI builds and maintains a secure, scalable system that gives our models safe, controlled access to computational environments. This infrastructure powers critical workloads across training and product, enabling models to run code, build software, interact with tools, and even control applications with user interfaces. We provision containers and virtual machines on large-scale clusters, granting models interactive control over these remote environments. Our work spans the full stack: from orchestrating massive jobs and resource scheduling at the cluster level, to fine-tuning filesystem performance on nodes. The Sandbox service enables Grok to safely run and test code in real-time for user queries, and supports reinforcement learning in training, where models interactively explore tools ranging from compilers to productivity apps.
