We own foundational distributed systems and platform capabilities that enable reliable execution, high-performance services, and large-scale file/data needs across our products. This team is distinct from developer infrastructure and data infrastructure—our focus is production service foundations and core runtime services. About the Role We’re hiring an Engineering Manager, Core Services to help lead teams responsible for highly reliable, high-scale distributed systems that sit on the critical path for OpenAI products. Your team will own foundational production systems that OpenAI’s product engineering teams build on. You’ll collaborate closely with product and infrastructure partners to ship reliable services quickly, and help scale systems and teams as OpenAI grows. You’ll partner closely with senior engineering leaders to scale the org, mature operations, and drive major platform initiatives. This role requires strong technical ability. You’ll be responsible for: Managing and growing a high-performing team of infrastructure engineers. Leading teams building and operating large, critical production platforms, including cluster reliability, scaling, and rollout safety. Building and operating mission-critical distributed systems with strong operational rigor (SLOs, incident response, capacity planning, reliability). Setting technical direction for platform foundations such as workflow/orchestration capabilities, large-scale file/blob/storage services, and core service foundations. Partnering with a broad set of stakeholders, including product engineering, adjacent infrastructure teams, and (where relevant) finance/cost partners. Coaching, mentoring, and developing engineers and emerging leaders. You might thrive in this role if you: Have significant experience leading teams that run mission-critical infrastructure in production

About the Team The Cooperative AI team is scaling OpenAI with OpenAI. We are building a model-powered scaled automated workforce and knowledge system that evolves and learns alongside a human workforce. By leveraging OpenAI’s state-of-the-art models and technologies, some already in production, others still in the lab, we develop systems that reason and work autonomously for a wide variety of operational work. We leverage real workloads for critical systems across finance, sales, customer support, integrity, product insights, internal operations, and more in order to drive insights into product and industry. We partner closely with internal teams and external customers globally, operating in a hyper-fast feedback loop where many of our users are just a few steps away. This proximity allows us to iterate quickly, validate impact in real time, and accelerate industry impacting learnings and systems builds. We are a highly multidisciplinary, self-contained team focused on transforming the workplace via smart systems, knowledge, scalable and reliable primitives that apply world-class AI capabilities across domains. Our mission is to learn fast and transform how humans collaborate with AI at scale. About the Role We are looking for a hands-on Engineering Manager to lead a small, fast-moving team building AI-powered automation systems that redefine how work gets done across OpenAI. This role sits at the intersection of applied AI, research, and product engineering. You’ll lead a team that builds systems that know how to learn from humans, and carry real workloads across, sales, support, finance, IT, and more, while staying deeply involved in the technical work. You will operate in a highly iterative environment, deploying systems directly to internal users, gathering rapid feedback, and evolving solutions in real time. This is a high-ownership role for someone excited about building 0→1 systems, working closely with customers, and shaping how AI transforms operational wor

About the Team The ChatGPT Space team is rethinking what work looks like when teams and agents can create together. We are building a shared workspace where a rough idea can become a polished, editable artifact, from Pages, Sheets, and Slides to entirely new kinds of work products. Our ambition is to build the best place for teams and agents to turn ideas into things they could not make alone. The work should keep evolving after the first draft, drawing on shared context, improving through collaboration, and staying current as a project moves forward. This is a high-agency team working across product, design, and research. We partner closely with model training teams to shape how frontier models create and edit artifacts, then bring those capabilities into a coherent experience across Pages, files, and tools. The work spans full-stack product engineering, editing and rendering systems, model integration, and collaboration, with a high bar for taste, correctness, and speed. About the Role As Engineering Manager, ChatGPT Space, you will lead and grow the product engineering team defining this experience. You will help shape both the product and the team that builds it, turning an ambitious, evolving vision into software people love to use. You will partner with product and design on what great collaboration between teams and agents should feel like, with research on what models can create, and with infrastructure and enterprise partners on a dependable experience at scale. This is a role for a leader who has built from zero to one and wants to help define a new category of work. You will bring the technical depth to guide hard decisions and the product judgment to know what is worth building, while developing engineers and giving them the clarity and autonomy to ship. This role is based in San Francisco. In this role, you will Lead, manage, and grow a product engineering team, creating clear ownership, supporting engineers’ development, and hiring exceptional people P
