Software Engineer, Ads

About the Team The Monetization team is a new cross-functional group working across engineering, product, research, and design to build the foundational systems that will help OpenAI scale access to intelligence responsibly. Our mission is to develop user-first, privacy-preserving monetization products, including next-generation ads experiences, that strengthen user trust, unlock economic opportunity, and support OpenAI’s long-term innovation. Monetization plays a critical role in enabling OpenAI to continue pushing the boundaries of AI capabilities while ensuring the benefits of AGI are broadly shared. We believe monetization must be aligned with user value, uphold rigorous privacy and safety standards, and sustain a healthy ecosystem of developers, advertisers, and businesses. This team operates in a greenfield environment and moves quickly through prototyping, experimentation, and iterative deployment. We partner closely with Product, Design, Research, and external customers to bring new monetization products into real-world systems at global scale. About the Role We’re looking for an experienced Software Engineer to help build Ads Manager, the UI platform advertisers use to create, manage, measure, and optimize ad campaigns across OpenAI’s ads ecosystem. This is a foundational role responsible for designing and implementing advertiser-facing products, APIs, tools, and services that connect external customers to OpenAI’s next-generation monetization products. You’ll work across the full technical stack to build intuitive self-serve workflows for small and mid-sized advertisers, as well as scalable APIs and integrations for large enterprise advertisers, agencies, and ad-tech partners who manage campaigns through their own buying platforms or intermediary systems. This includes building advertiser-facing APIs and tooling for campaign management, conversion APIs, pixels, measurement, and insights. You will collaborate deeply with Product, Design, Research, and Go-To

About the Team The Integrity team builds the systems that protect OpenAI’s products, users, and ecosystem from abuse. We work across product engineering, infrastructure, safety, and operations to detect and prevent harmful, fraudulent, deceptive, and adversarial activity at global scale. As OpenAI builds new ads experiences, we are establishing the integrity foundation that will keep the ads ecosystem safe and trustworthy from the start. This includes protecting advertiser onboarding, detecting unsafe or policy-violating ad content, preventing fraudulent and abusive advertiser behavior, and defending the ads ecosystem against spam, manipulation, and other forms of abuse. Ads Integrity is a new and highly cross-functional area. The team partners closely with Ads, Product, Safety, Policy, ML, Privacy, Security, and operations teams to build protections directly into the ads platform rather than layering them on after the fact. This is an opportunity to define how integrity works for a new ads ecosystem from first principles. About the Role We’re looking for an experienced Software Engineer to build the backend systems and infrastructure that keep OpenAI’s ads products safe, trustworthy, and resilient to abuse. In this foundational role, you will design systems that detect, prevent, and respond to harmful, deceptive, fraudulent, or policy-violating activity across the ads lifecycle. The problems span advertiser onboarding and verification, account and behavioral risk, content safety, spam and fraudulent interactions, detection and enforcement infrastructure, and the systems that connect integrity signals and models to real-time product decisions. This is not an ML-specialist role, but familiarity with ML for Ads integrity is always welcome. You’ll work closely with ML engineers and researchers and build systems that consume and operationalize ML-based signals, but your primary focus will be designing and operating robust backend and distributed systems. You’ll help det

About the Team The Applied team at OpenAI safely brings cutting-edge technology to the world. We have released widely used products such as ChatGPT, Sora, and the OpenAI API, powering models including GPT-5 and a growing set of multimodal capabilities across text, image, audio, and video. Our team also manages large-scale inference and platform infrastructure that supports these experiences at global scale. With much more on the horizon, our impact continues to grow. Our customers build fast-growing businesses using our APIs, unlocking product capabilities that were previously unimaginable. ChatGPT and Sora exemplify the breadth of what’s now possible across text, image, audio, and video experiences. As these capabilities expand, we prioritize the responsible use of our technology, emphasizing safe and thoughtful deployment over unchecked growth. Within Applied Engineering, the Ads Monetization team in Financial Engineering builds the core systems dealing with all the money flows for ChatGPT Ads. These systems are a combination of low-latency, high scale, high reliability, while being built in a financially correct, accurate, auditable and explainable way. This role sits at the intersection of ads delivery, data engineering, and financial systems. In this role, you will: Architect and build the core monetization systems for ChatGPT Ads. Build and operate the core services and pipelines that power ads monetization end-to-end, from event capture and validation through aggregation, pricing, metering, and ultimately producing billable outputs. Define and implement the source of truth for ads monetization data, including schemas, data models, and invariants that ensure outputs are consistent, explainable, and auditable. Own correctness and reconciliation: align production outputs with downstream invoicing/finance requirements, build controls/monitors, and close gaps through investigations and backfills. Develop across the stack to create comprehensive billing integration

About the Role We’re looking for an experienced Software Engineer to build measurement systems that connect ad interactions to meaningful advertiser outcomes while protecting user privacy. In this foundational role, you’ll design infrastructure for conversion signals, attribution, reporting, and feedback loops across OpenAI’s ads products. This role is ideal for engineers who have built large-scale ads measurement, data, experimentation, marketplace, or distributed systems and want to apply that experience in a highly ambiguous 0→1 environment. You’ll work across event collection and normalization, deduplication and matching, attribution and modeled measurement, privacy-safe aggregation, reporting, and high-quality labels for ads optimization. We are hiring engineers who can independently own complex systems, make sound technical tradeoffs, and help define what should be built. You’ll work closely with Ads Delivery, Ads ML, Product, Research, Privacy, Data Sc
