In this role, you will work with engineers and cross-functional partners to design, build, test, deploy, and operate production software. You will primarily develop backend services using Java or Go, while owning well-defined components and projects, contributing to technical decisions, and helping improve the reliability, maintainability, and developer experience of the systems the team owns. This is a strong opportunity for an engineer who has solid software engineering fundamentals and is ready to grow their technical depth and ownership. Responsibilities Design, implement, test, deploy, and maintain production-quality backend software, prim

About the Team Enterprise Controls & Console is part of Enterprise Engineering. We build the permissions, governance, and administration capabilities that help organizations use and deploy ChatGPT, Codex, and OpenAI products with confidence. We give administrators granular controls over access and security, helping ensure that people and agents operate within the boundaries their organizations define. Our work combines complex backend platform engineering with enterprise product needs and touches every major product and model launch. We build scalable, reusable services and intuitive administration experiences, and provide a shared controls foundation that enables internal teams to introduce new capabilities safely. About the Role We are looking for an experienced backend software engineer to help shape and build the systems behind enterprise access, governance, and sharing. You will bring deep backend expertise and strong product judgment to problems that span multiple OpenAI products, including how people and agents share access and work together. You will lead technical design and delivery, translate ambiguous enterprise needs into clear system behavior, and remain hands-on from implementation through production operation. This role is based in San Francisco. In this role, you will: Design and build backend services for permissions, authorization, and governance across ChatGPT, Codex, and OpenAI APIs. Develop sharing capabilities between people and agents, with clear access rules and enterprise controls that are understandable to administrators and users. Build reusable services and APIs that support workspace administration and console experiences as OpenAI products evolve. Lead architecture and delivery for complex initiatives, aligning product and engineering partners on requirements, tradeoffs, and rollout plans. Translate enterprise needs into clear configuration, predictable permission behavior, and maintainable systems that other product teams can buil

About the team Life sciences is one of the clearest areas where advances in intelligence can meaningfully benefit the world at large. The OpenAI Life Sciences team works at the intersection of advancing frontier life sciences model capabilities and building products to help scientists accelerate their research and leverage the full potential of AI for scientific work. We’re building platforms that connect model intelligence with practical scientific workflows. Our work covers workflows from next-gen sequencing analysis to designing new drugs, helping scientists run computational workloads as well as access laboratory services. By making these capabilities more accessible and useful, we aim to improve early discovery and support downstream progress in drug development. About the role We’re looking for experienced full-stack product engineers with strong backend skills to join our growing Life Sciences team. This is an individual contributor role with substantial ownership. You’ll help define products, design systems, and ship experiences that connect scientists with AI capabilities and laboratory workflows. You’ll work across the stack, partnering with researchers, scientists, and infrastructure engineers to turn complex needs into reliable, intuitive products. We value strong engineering fundamentals, product judgment, and experience shipping to large user bases. Life sciences experience is helpful, but you don’t need a scientific background to make a meaningful contribution. In this role, you will Design backend services, APIs, and integrations that connect users with models, scientific tools, and laboratory services. Create intuitive interfaces that help scientists navigate complex workflows. Own projects from problem definition and technical design through launch, operation, and iteration. Work with scientific and research partners to identify user needs and prioritize valuable product improvements. Partner with dedicated infrastructure engineers on performance,

About the Team The ChatGPT Velocity team owns the health of the end-to-end developer and deploy loop for ChatGPT-facing services. Our mission is to help ChatGPT engineers ship confidently with a fast, lightweight development cycle and a trusted path to production. ChatGPT development depends on a long chain: local environments, Bazel builds, CI, tests, merges, release candidates, deploys, synthetics, alerts, and production health. When any link is slow, flaky, or unclear, engineers lose hours, fixes reach users later, and on-call load rises. This team turns that cross-cutting drag into owned, measured, and durable improvements. About the Role We are hiring an experienced infrastructure engineer to make ChatGPT development dramatically faster and more reliable. You will work across local development, build systems, CI, deployment infrastructure, test ownership, and production safety signals to reduce the time and attention required to move a healthy change from development to production. This is not a narrow tooling role. The best person for this job will be comfortable diagnosing messy distributed systems, reading developer pain signals from Slack and metrics, building reliable automation, negotiating ownership across teams, and making tradeoffs between velocity and production safety. You should enjoy treating engineers as users and turning confusing workflow failures into clear, measured systems. In this role, you will: Reduce local development startup and iteration latency for ChatGPT engineers Improve Bazel and build performance for local machines, devboxes, and CI, including cache effectiveness, reproducibility, disk usage, remote cache behavior, and observability into invalidations. Improve CI reliability and merge throughput by reducing unrelated failures, tail latency, flaky or mis-owned tests, quarantine friction, and repeated manual reruns. Build agents that help PRs make forward progress: rebasing, conflict resolution, CI triage, safe reruns, owner routing

About the Team Our team builds classification and evaluation systems that give post-training and research teams fast, reliable feedback on model behavior. We combine machine learning and production engineering to make these capabilities accurate, efficient, and useful at scale, helping researchers assess changes and improve models and products. We work closely with researchers and data scientists and have broad ownership of the software that makes these capabilities available. Our work spans real-time systems, data engineering, model serving, and tools for experimentation, with careful attention to performance, reliability, and privacy. About the Role We’re looking for a software engineer to build and evolve our classification and evaluation platform. You’ll develop services, online and offline pipelines, and tools that help researchers and data scientists turn an idea into a working measurement and iterate on it quickly. This role combines software and data engineering with hands-on production ownership. You’ll shape the architecture, deliver new capabilities, improve inference efficiency, and keep the system dependable as workloads and requirements evolve. Strong candidates will bring deep software engineering expertise and an interest in building a technical product in close partnership with its users. In this role, you will: Design and build software services and APIs for configuring, running, and managing classifiers and evaluations. Build and operate online and offline classification pipelines that support reliable, efficient execution at scale. Improve model-serving performance, including throughput, latency, concurrency, and compute utilization. Build tools that make experimentation, debugging, and iteration straightforward for researchers and data scientists. Own production reliability, observability, and incident response, and reduce the operational burden of running the platform. Partner with machine learning engineers to bring new classification capabili
