Software Engineer, Search Infrastructure

About Sentry Software runs the world and the pace is faster than ever. Sentry helps developers fix errors and performance issues before users notice, so teams can spend less time firefighting and more time building. Trusted by 200,000+ organizations, Sentry is today’s application monitoring standard and our team is building its AI-native future. About the role The Events Analytics Platform (EAP) team is responsible for the infrastructure that powers all of Sentry's time-series data and searching capabilities across billions of events with sub-second latency. We started this initiative by building Snuba, the primary storage and query service for Sentry's event data powered by ClickHouse, and we are now focused on unlocking deeper visibility and reporting across the terabytes of event data our users generate. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will lead efforts to push the boundaries of data visibility at Sentry. You will do this by expanding the capabilities of our search infrastructure, building new capabilities on top of our state-of-the-art storage layer and increasing the performance and integrity of Sentry’s core data services. You will also help shape Infrastructure's technical direction at Sentry and collaborate with Product and other Engineering teams to turn that vision into a reality. If you want to solve the hard problems that come with scaling event data into the petabyte range, this could be the job for you. In this role you will: Expand EAP's ability to deliver data at world-class speed and reliability. Architect and automate services and systems to scale reliably under growing demand. Make architectural trade-offs that balance product requirements with engineering constraints. Maintain and grow the team's code quality initiatives by regularly reviewing code and contributing to design decisions. Lead design and discussions around deliverables the team is working towards. Improve the maintainability and developer experience of the codebases EAP owns. Exa

About the Team The Foundations Research team works on high-risk, high-reward ideas that could shape the next decade of AI. Our goal is to advance the science and data that enable our training and scaling efforts, with a particular focus on future frontier models. Pushing the boundaries of data, scaling laws, optimization techniques, model architectures, and efficiency improvements to propel our science. The Search team sits within Foundations, building agentic search by co-designing model–system interfaces with the core search stack (serving, indexing, retrieval) to translate model intent into reliable, real-world actions. Operating at the frontier of AI and information retrieval, the team develops large-scale systems that transform and index vast corpora, enabling models to reason over global knowledge and act dependably. In close partnership with researchers, we rapidly bring modeling breakthroughs into production and redefine how intelligent systems discover, retrieve, and synthesize information at planetary scale. About the Role We’re looking for a Software Engineer focused on building and scaling retrieval systems. You’ll work with a team of researchers and engineers to develop infrastructure that enables models to retrieve and act on the right information at the right time. This includes designing and operating indexing systems, retrieval pipelines, and serving layers. This work supports retrieval across OpenAI products and research, with direct impact on system performance, reliability, and scale. Responsibilities Build and scale retrieval infrastructure across indexing, serving, and query execution. Develop low-latency, high-throughput systems for real-time model interaction. Partner with research to productionize embedding and retrieval techniques. Support dense, sparse, and hybrid retrieval pipelines. Own system performance, reliability, and observability at scale. Collaborate across Pretraining, Inference, and Product teams to integrate retrieval end-to-e

About VSCO For years, we've helped photographers create their work. Now we're building what comes next. VSCO exists for photographers. Not as a side feature, not as an afterthought, but as the whole point. We build the connected system photographers rely on, and we've spent over a decade earning the trust of a global creative community that takes the craft seriously. Photography is at an inflection point. AI is reshaping what's possible for creative work, and that's where our mission shines. VSCO is building the full photographer's workflow: from creating and editing your work, to delivering it to clients, to running your business. All of it built thoughtfully, with photographers leading the way. We believe the future of photography tools creates more space for creativity, handling the busy work so photographers can focus on the craft. If you care about craft, community, and what technology can unlock for creative people, this is the work. We're a mission-driven and focused company where your work ships quickly, is meaningful, and reaches tens of millions of people worldwide. You'll have a real say in what we build and how we build it. We hire people who don't wait to be asked, naturally connect the dots, care about the quality of what they ship, and believe the best outcomes come from building together. About The Role We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer, Infrastructure to own the platform that VSCO product and data teams ship on. You’ll join a small infra team that treats AWS, EKS, and GitOps as the default path for new systems, and you’ll spend real time pairing with other teams so - search, Workspace, and data - land in the right Terraform, Helm, and Flux instead of one-off snowflakes. This is a hands-on senior seat. You will design Terraform modules, cut production traffic to EKS, secure traffic with Cloudflare, look for optimizations in our AWS infrastructure, and leave on-call better than you found them. You like production ownership, you can sequence
