About the Role At OpenAI, we're dedicated to advancing artificial intelligence, and we know that creating a secure and reliable platform is vital to our mission. That's why we're seeking a software engineer to help us build out our trust and safety capabilities. In this role, you'll work with our entire engineering team to design and implement systems that detect and prevent abuse, promote user safety, and reduce risk across our platform. You'll be at the forefront of our efforts to ensure that the immense potential of AI is harnessed in a responsible and sustainable manner. Your Responsibilities: Architect, build, and maintain anti-abuse and content moderation infrastructure designed to protect us and end users from unwanted behavior. Work closely with our other engineers and researchers to utilize both industry standard and novel AI techniques to measure, monitor and improve AI models’ alignment to human values. . Diagnose and remediate active incidents on the platform and build new tooling and infrastructure that address the root causes of system failure. We are seeking an experienced Senior Machine Learning Engineer to join our Safety ML team. This role focuses on building and deploying machine learning models that help keep Discord users safe, including real-time and batch systems for content understanding, risk evaluation, and account integrity. You will work closely with partners across product, engineering, design, policy, legal, and Trust and Safety to design and deliver effective ML solutions. This role reports to the Senior Manager of Machine Learning, Safety. What You'll Be Doing Analyze data to identify risk patterns and inform the design of machine learning models Build, iterate on, and evaluate models that detect risk and anomalous behavior Work with product, engineering, legal, and Trust and Safety partners to deliver effective ML solutions Work with partner teams in Trust & Safety to curate golden label sets at scale and improve data labeling techniques for model training Deploy models into production systems, writing backend code as needed to ensure scalability and reliability, and monitor performance Document modeling approaches and systems, and apply current machine learning best practices What you should have 4+ years of experience in ML engineering or applied ML roles. Strong coding skills in Python and fluency in ML frameworks such as PyTorch, JAX, or TensorFlow. About the Team The Integrity team builds the systems that protect OpenAI’s products, users, and ecosystem from abuse. We work across product engineering, infrastructure, safety, and operations to detect and prevent harmful, fraudulent, deceptive, and adversarial activity at global scale. As OpenAI builds new ads experiences, we are establishing the integrity foundation that will keep the ads ecosystem safe and trustworthy from the start. This includes protecting advertiser onboarding, detecting unsafe or policy-violating ad content, preventing fraudulent and abusive advertiser behavior, and defending the ads ecosystem against spam, manipulation, and other forms of abuse. Ads Integrity is a new and highly cross-functional area. The team partners closely with Ads, Product, Safety, Policy, ML, Privacy, Security, and operations teams to build protections directly into the ads platform rather than layering them on after the fact. This is an opportunity to define how integrity works for a new ads ecosystem from first principles. About the Role We’re looking for an experienced Software Engineer to build the backend systems and infrastructure that keep OpenAI’s ads products safe, trustworthy, and resilient to abuse. In this foundational role, you will design systems that detect, prevent, and respond to harmful, deceptive, fraudulent, or policy-violating activity across the ads lifecycle. The problems span advertiser onboarding and verification, account and behavioral risk, content safety, spam and fraudulent interactions, detection and enforcement infrastructure, and the systems that connect integrity signals and models to real-time product decisions.
