Staff Software Engineer, Node Infra

About Anthropic Anthropic’s mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. We want AI to be safe and beneficial for our users and for society as a whole. Our team is a quickly growing group of committed researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business leaders working together to build beneficial AI systems. About the role We run one of the industry's largest AI compute fleets, spanning multiple cloud providers and datacenters, to train, research, and serve frontier AI models. Those fleets run on Kubernetes, and the Kubernetes Platform team owns the control plane that makes them work. We are operating at a scale where the defaults stop working. We own the scheduler and extend it to place topology-sensitive ML workloads across thousands of accelerators at once. We scale the control plane itself — apiserver, etcd, controllers — so it stays responsive as object counts and node counts grow by orders of magnitude. And we build the core cluster services every workload depends on, like service discovery, so they hold up under the same pressure. We make sure the control plane is fast, correct, and always available. Your work will directly determine whether Anthropic can keep reliably and safely training frontier models as our compute footprint continues to grow. Key responsibilities Own, operate, and extend the Kubernetes scheduler for Anthropic's accelerator fleets, including custom scheduling plugins and policies for gang scheduling, topology awareness, and preemption Scale the Kubernetes control plane (apiserver, etcd, controller-manager) to support clusters far beyond typical limits, and find the next bottleneck before it finds us Design, build, and operate core cluster services such as service discovery that every workload in the fleet depends on Build and maintain custom controllers, operators, and CRDs Partner with research, training, and inference to understand workload shapes and turn their requirements into platform capabilities Collabo

At Vanta, our mission is to help businesses earn and prove trust. We believe that security should be monitored and verified continuously, and we empower companies to practice better security and prove it with ease. Vanta has a kind and talented team, and while some have prior security experience, many have been successful at Vanta without it. Our Staff Software Engineers identify key strategic technical initiatives, deliver significant value to our customers and business, and set the tone for engineering excellence and culture. As an early engineering hire on the growing Privacy & Data Security team based in London, you will play a key role in bolstering our engineering presence in Europe. You'll partner with product management, product design, and your growing engineering team to drive the discovery and development of privacy features that expand Vanta’s value for its customers. Your work will accelerate product development and create a consistent customer experience for all of our customer segments. Vanta’s team and technology surface are growing quickly, and it’s essential that we invest in the right abstractions and systems to enable us to scale with our business. As a Staff Software Engineer, you’ll be responsible for identifying key strategic technical initiatives that impact our entire engineering team and deliver significant value to our business. You will set a high bar for engineering culture and excellence, and your past experience will be leveraged to enable and accelerate Vanta’s growth. Our business has found incredible product-market fit and has monetized effectively since the day we signed our first customer. We’re growing at a blistering pace, which presents career-defining opportunities for engineers to accelerate their growth and to contribute to a rapidly-scaling company. Here’s a summary of the role: Build software that matters, take real technical ownership, and use modern AI tooling to do your best work. This is a hands-on senior engineering role for someone who enjoys solving complex product problems, shaping robust solutions, and helping teams deliver reliable services at scale. You’ll work on secure, scalable microservices and APIs using TypeScript, AWS, and modern engineering practices. You’ll play a leading role within a collaborative product engineering team, owning complex features end to end, contributing to design and architectural decisions, supporting production systems, and helping raise the bar across backend, cloud, and AI-assisted development workflows. Here’s a breakdown of what you’ll do, not all of it, just the important stuff: Own and deliver complex backend services and APIs using Node.js, TypeScript, and AWS , from technical design through release and production support. Contribute to design and architecture discussions, making pragmatic decisions that balance delivery speed, maintainability, scalability, and security. Mentor and support less experienced engineers through code reviews, pairing, technical guidance, and day-to-day collaboration. Work closely with product managers, designers, and engineers across the team to turn requirements into practical, reliable solutions. Use AI tools to accelerate coding, debugging, testing, research, and documentation, while validating outputs carefully and applying sound judgment. Strengthen service reliability, observability, and engineering quality by improving monitoring, incident response, testing, and development practices. These are the essentials you’ll need to get an interview: 5 to 8 years of professional software engineering experience delivering production systems in an agile environment.
