At Lyft, our purpose is to serve and connect. We aim to achieve this by cultivating a work environment where all team members belong and have the opportunity to thrive. The Safety and Customer Care (SCC) team at Lyft manages over 1.7 million monthly human and AI interactions and serves as Lyft's primary direct touchpoint with riders and drivers. We handle critical infrastructure that powers both human associates and AI agents to make riders and drivers feel safe and comfortable while riding or driving with Lyft, transforming every support interaction into a moment of genuine connection. Agentic AI is at the center of how we scale that mission. We fine-tune and align open-source models, build AI-powered support agents, and develop end-to-end AI agents for safety case management, systems that reason over complex, high-stakes cases and drive them to resolution. SCC brings together ML, data, backend, and product engineers alongside data scientists and operations partners to transform these systems. As a Machine Learning Engineer on the SCC team, you will fine-tune and align models and build AI Agents that power how riders and drivers get help. Your work spans the full loop: post-training open-source models for our domain, composing them into multi-step agents, and building the evaluation that proves they are safe to ship in a customer-facing, safety-critical setting. Post-train and adapt open-source LLMs for SCC use cases using SFT, LoRA, and preference-tuning methods (RLHF, RLAIF, RLVR). Design and build AI-powered support agents and end-to-end agents for safety case management using LangGraph or equivalent agentic frameworks. Own the evaluation data flywheel, offline and online, that defines what "good" looks like and build benchmarks for the team to hill-climb. Turn interaction feedback into training data and learning signals, closing the data flywheel that continuously improves the models. Responsibilities: Conduct literature review and build post-training fra
Discord has a highly engaged community of millions of daily active users who use the platform for many different reasons, but there’s one thing that nearly everyone does: play video games. Discord plays a uniquely important role in the future of gaming, and we are focused on making it easier and more fun for people to hang out before, during, and after playing games. Keeping our platform safe requires infrastructure that is accurate, scalable, and fair and the engineering challenges that come with that are genuinely hard. Our Safety Engineering teams build and operate the systems that power content moderation, enforcement, and safety signal processing at scale. Our team developed Osprey , the open-source investigation and incident response tool that allows safety teams to understand what is happening on their platforms and take actions at scale. Osprey has since been open-sourced and donated to ROOST , reflecting our commitment to industry-wide safety improvements. We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer who thrives on complex, ambiguous problems and can take full ownership of critical infrastructure from design through post-launch iteration. What You'll Be Doing Own complex safety infrastructure projects end-to-end, from initial design through post-launch monitoring and iteration Build and maintain production systems that operate at massive scale, participating in on-call rotations Apply an adversarial mindset to your work — thinking through security, abuse scenarios, edge cases, and scalability concerns Collaborate closely with Trust & Safety, ML, Policy, and product teams to understand requirements and deliver effective solutions Break down large, multi-milestone projects into prioritized work streams while managing stakeholders and dependencies across teams Contribute to technical design discussions and write RFCs; help establish best practices and maintain a high quality bar through code reviews and mentorship What You Should Have 5+ years of pro
This team is where reports and signals become decisions. We build the LLM pipelines that review reported content, the systems that carry enforcement out, the appeals path users take when we get it wrong, and the tooling our investigators and content reviewers work in every day. Most safety reviews are now decided by automation instead of a person, at a cost per review that has fallen by more than 90% on mature workflows and at precision and recall above trained human reviewers. What's left to automate is the ambiguous, high-stakes end, and with appeals arriving by the hundreds of thousands, getting users a fast and fair answer matters as much as catching harm. We're hiring an Engineering Manager to lead the team: nine engineers across three squads, each with an experienced tech lead. One builds the automated review systems; another owns enforcement, warnings, and the infrastructure behind appeals; and the final owns tooling that enables analysts to be effective. You'll report to the Director of Engineering for Safety and work closely with our content review operations, machine learning, product, policy, and legal teams. The charter is larger than the current headcount, and we expect the role to grow with it. What you'll do Lead three squads, Review, Enforce, and Tooling through their tech leads, setting direction across automated review, enforcement, and appeals Push automation toward nearly all review decisions without giving up precision or recall against a human baseline, and get engineering out of the loop so the operations team can launch and tune workflows themselves Rebuild appeals: one path for
