About the Role & Team Every AI insight, every experiment, every cohort at Amplitude starts with a query. Our in-house OLAP engine, Nova , processes trillions of events in real time — turning raw behavioral data into fast, trustworthy answers that power decisions for thousands of product teams worldwide. We’re entering a world where AI agents don’t just assist product teams — they ship features, run experiments, and make prioritization calls autonomously. What makes that possible is agents’ ability to verify their work against real product data continuously. That makes Nova the critical infrastructure in the loop, and as non-stop agents become the main source of queries, the demand on Nova’s throughput, correctness, and operational rigor grows dramatically. We’re looking for a Staff Software Engineer who wants to go deep on both the engine internals and the infrastructure underneath it. You’ll work across the full stack of a modern OLAP system — query planning and execution, columnar storage and encoding, distributed compute, caching, and cloud infrastructure — while driving meaningful improvements to performance, cost-efficiency, and reliability at scale. You’ll influence technical direction through your work, your design reviews, and your mentorship of other engineers on a team of ~10. This role is ideal for someone who finds real satisfaction in making a complex distributed system faster, cheaper, and more reliable — and who wants to do that work on a system that directly powers the product experience for thousands of customers. What You’ll Do Build and evolve core query engine infrastructure Work across Nova's query execution engine and distributed compute layer: query planning, columnar storage formats, encoding and compression, caching, and cluster-level resource management. Software Engineer II, Growth at Amplitude (View all jobs) San Francisco Bay Area About The Role & Team The Growth organization is focused on helping users realize long-term value from Amplitude. The team plays a critical role in that journey by driving expansion within existing accounts. Many of our customers start with just a few users — often in product or data teams. We build features that help new users set up, get activated, leverage AI for frictionless insights, highlight relevant parts of the product they might otherwise miss, and expand usage across teams and departments. What we're building Mutiny is the self-improving AI infrastructure for GTM teams to execute faster and close more revenue. Our ambition is to do for revenue velocity what Cursor and Claude Code did for engineering velocity. About The Role & Team Amplitude is only as useful as the data inside it. The Data Connections team owns how that data gets in and out — importing behavioral and customer data from cloud data warehouses like Snowflake, Databricks, and BigQuery, from cloud object storage like S3 and Azure Blob Storage, and pushing enriched event data back out to warehouses, object storage, streaming destinations, and downstream advertising and marketing platforms. That means batch and streaming pipelines moving billions of events a day, connections that have to keep working across dozens of customer-controlled systems, credentials and configuration that have to stay correct and secure, and latency and reliability targets that customers build their own pipelines on top of. Recent work includes launching new warehouse export destinations, migrating our import pipelines onto a durable workflow engine, building low-latency streaming export, and supporting cross-region and cross-cloud customer storage. You'll lead a team of around 10 engineers building this, reporting to our Head of Data Platform, and you'll be the person accountable for the roadmap, the reliability, and the growth of the people on it. The stack is Java, Temporal, Kafka, Kubernetes, Terraform, DynamoDB, S3, and Snowflake, running on AWS and GCP. Responsibilities Set the direction and roadmap for data import and export, with clear priorities and tradeoffs you can explain to engineers, PMs, and customers Lead, coach, and grow a team of around 10 engineers — hiring, career development, feedback, and performance Partner with your tech leads on architecture across ingestion, transformation, and delivery, without becoming the bottleneck for every decision Own reliability, SLOs, and cost efficiency for pipelines customers depend on daily Expand the set of destinations and sources we support, and make each new integration cheaper to build than the last Work directly with Product, Design, and other Data Platform teams to ship e

Amplitude is moving fast, from product analytics to an AI-native platform with agents embedded across the product, used by over 4,700 companies. We are looking for a strong design leader with a builder mindset to lead a 15-person design team through the next phase of growth. This is a player-coach role . You manage and grow the team. You also stay in the actual work: elevating quality through feedback, pairing with designers on the hardest UX puzzles, and asking the right questions to unlock the crux of the problem. You'll know every product surface well enough to raise its quality — even if you don't own any single one end-to-end. Designers are embedded in autonomous pods and need to keep shipping fast. Maintaining speed without compromising on coherence and quality is the job. If that tension sounds like an exciting problem to solve rather than a contradiction to complain about, keep reading. What you'll do Build the team. Hire, grow, and retain a high-performing design team, identifying people who will thrive and raise the bar at Amplitude. Develop them through direct, specific feedback. Help someone who's stuck get moving again. Set direction. Drive the design strategy for Amplitude's product suite: Core Amplitude, Statsig, and Wave (a proactive agent that helps teams build self-improving products). Help define how agents and humans work together in the same workflows. Champion craft. Strong visual design builds trust, clarity, and delight in the era of AI. Lead by example, elevating the quality of the product through exceptional design execution. Hold a high bar. AI makes it cheap to ship UI changes, which makes it easy for quality to erode quietly. Set a clear standard for what good looks like and enforce it without becoming an approval bottleneck. Stay in production. You believe that “the design” is what ships. Code is the material that brings the design to life. Push on the details, the papercuts, the edge cases. Speak for the customer. Show up in leadership
