About the team The AI Deployment Engineering team is responsible for ensuring the safe and effective deployment of Generative AI applications. We act as a trusted advisor and thought partner for our customers, working to build an effective backlog of GenAI use cases for their industry and drive them to production through strong technical guidance. As an AI Deployment Engineer (ADE) in the OpenAI for Government team, you’ll help government agencies transform their organization through solutions such as automated content generation, contextual search, and novel applications that make use of our newest, most exciting models and technology. About the Role We are looking for a driven solutions leader with a product mindset to partner with our public sector customers and ensure they achieve tangible value with GenAI. You will pair with government agencies (federal, state, and local), policymakers, and other public institutions to establish a GenAI strategy and identify the highest value applications. You’ll then partner with their technical teams, subject matter experts, systems integrators, and implementation partners to move from prototype through production. You’ll take a holistic view of their needs and design an architecture using the OpenAI API and other services to maximize customer value. You will collaborate closely with Sales, Solutions Engineering, Global Affairs, Applied Research, and Product teams. This role is based in Washington, DC. We offer relocation support to new employees. In this role, you will: Deeply embed with our most sophisticated public sector customers as the technical lead, serving as their technical thought partner to ideate and build novel applications on our API and other OpenAI products. About the team The OpenAI for Government team is a dynamic, mission-driven group leveraging frontier AI to transform how governments achieve their missions. Our team works to empower public servants with secure, compliant AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT Enterprise, ChatGPT Gov) and mission-aligned deployments that meet government technical requirements with strong reliability and safety. About the role Forward Deployed Engineers (FDEs) lead complex deployments of frontier models in production. You will embed with our most strategic government and public sector customers—where model performance matters, delivery is urgent, and ambiguity is the default. You’ll map their problems, structure delivery, and ship fast. This includes scoping, sequencing, and building full-stack solutions that create measurable value, while driving clarity across internal and external teams. You will work directly with defense, intelligence, and federal stakeholders as their technical thought partner, guiding adoption, maximizing mission impact, and ensuring successful deployments at scale. Along the way, you’ll identify reusable patterns, codify best practices, and share field signal that influences OpenAI’s roadmap. This role is based in Washington DC, Seattle or San Francisco. About the Role We’re looking for dedicated, experienced, and deeply curious individuals to help solve some of the most complex challenges faced by our customers while building the future of post-AGI support alongside us. In this role, you’ll work directly with customers through support tickets and live calls, troubleshooting high-impact issues and resolving novel, often ambiguous technical problems in one of the fastest-moving environments in technology.
