Senior Container Security Engineer – CVE Remediation & Image Hardening About the Role We are looking for a hands-on Senior Container Security Engineer to lead vulnerability remediation and image hardening across Linux-based container environments. This role focuses on deep operating system and container security engineering rather than simple vulnerability scanning. You will analyze, remediate, rebuild, harden, and continuously optimize container images used in modern cloud-native platforms. You will work closely with platform engineering, DevOps, infrastructure, and security teams to build automated remediation pipelines, reduce the attack surface, and deliver production-ready hardened images. About the Team Frontier Systems Foundations, part of Compute Foundations at OpenAI, builds the systems software foundation that turns new compute infrastructure into reliable, usable capacity for frontier model training. Our mission is to make some of the world's largest GPU clusters work reliably for frontier training. We bring new platforms and clusters online, safely maintain installed fleets, and partner with hardware, infrastructure, and research teams to resolve the system-level issues that keep jobs from running. That means building and maintaining the software closest to the machine: Linux and Ubuntu operating-system images, kernels and modules, drivers, packages and repositories, disks and boot configuration, firmware integration, provisioning, and system-level validation. We make these components reproducible, compatible, and safe to operate across heterogeneous fleets. About the Role We are looking for systems software engineers with deep Linux and host-systems experience to build, qualify, and maintain the operating-system foundation for OpenAI's frontier compute fleet. Relevant backgrounds include kernel and module development, Linux distribution or image engineering, package management, firmware and driver integration, disks and boot, and bare-metal provisioning. Role Overview You’re a seasoned Site Reliability Engineer who loves owning complex infrastructure, making things run faster, safer, and with less manual effort. In this Staff‑level role, you’ll design and operate VMware‑based private cloud platforms that power mission‑critical SaaS products used by customers around the world. You’ll work across Linux, Windows Server, networking, storage, and automation frameworks to increase reliability, reduce toil, and modernize a global datacenter environment. You’ll have the scope to set technical direction, build automation at scale, and mentor engineers while staying hands‑on with VMware vSphere, F5/AVI load balancers, and hybrid Active Directory. Here’s a breakdown of what you’ll do (not all of it, just the important stuff) Lead the architecture, deployment, and ongoing optimization of VMware vSphere–based private cloud infrastructure across multiple global datacenters.
