We’re looking for a Staff Software Engineer to help shape AI governance for developer tooling at Coder. This role sits on our AI Governance team, which builds and maintains two enterprise-grade components of Coder's AI governance stack. AI Gateway is a centralized LLM gateway that sits between coding agents and providers such as OpenAI or Anthropic, providing organizations with audit trails, token tracking, cost control, and centralized authentication. Agent Firewall wraps those agents with default-deny network policies, controlling which domains and methods they can reach inside workspaces. This team works across the full stack - from Go backend and React frontend to integrating with LLM provider APIs. Today, organizations struggle to ensure their most important digital experiences are working as intended because observability data is scattered across products and siloed in logical layers of their technical stack. We're building the system that fixes this: Journey Monitoring, a single centralized hub that brings together Real User Monitoring (RUM), Synthetics, and Product Analytics to bridge the gap between system health and user success. You'd be building a product that establishes a new functional observability layer, enabling teams to auto-discover journeys, track conversions and uptime side-by-side, and trace root causes across their full stack without cross-team handoffs. What you'll do: Drive the product vision and roadmap spanning the Journey Monitoring hub, including the journey map, details reports, automatically inferred journeys, and cross-product data federation. Own the end-to-end product lifecycle from discovery to launch, working with a cross-functional team of engineers, designers, and other PMs across the Digital Experience Monitoring (DEM) products. Deeply understand the needs of distinct key personas: SREs and engineers (who monitor uptime and troubleshoot technical performance), product managers (who track conversion and investigate behavioral drop-offs), and business leaders (who care about outcomes and revenue impact). Design the functional observability layer that makes end-to-end flow monitoring intuitive — including the auto-discovery of user journeys from real traffic, Experience Level Objectives (XLOs), and seamless Bits AI integrations for automated root-cause investigations. Define how behavioral data and technical data come together to automatically surface whether a drop in conversion is caused by a technical failure (like a breached SLO) or a behavioral friction point. Engage directly with early customers and internal dogfooding users to iterate on usability, refine the journey map, and optimize the cross-sell and up-sell paths for

About the Team The Finance & Supply Chain Engineering organization includes two complementary teams. Software Engineering builds internal full-stack applications, durable agentic workflows, plugins, MCPs, and measurable AI-enabled engineering practices. Data Engineering builds trusted analytics data assets for Finance and Supply Chain. The teams have distinct charters, with important shared dependencies and broad cross team partnerships across Engineering, Applications, Finance, and Supply Chain. About the Role We are looking for a hands-on senior technical leader who will report alongside the Software Engineering and Data Engineering managers. This is an individual-contributor role with no immediate people-management responsibility. The Tech Lead will raise the technical bar across both teams, participate in important cross-team or high-risk design decisions, and directly own and ship high-impact work. The role should improve team judgment and autonomy rather than act as a floating architect or universal approval gate. In this role, you will: Partner with the Software Engineering and Data Engineering managers as a peer technical leader; managers retain accountability for people, staffing, priorities, performance, and delivery commitments. Directly own the architecture, implementation, launch, and operation of one or more high-impact initiatives, remaining accountable for real outcomes rather than advisory output alone. Guide important design decisions that are cross-team, difficult to reverse, or material to security, financial controls, reliability, data quality, or long-term cost of ownership. Establish pragmatic engineering standards across architecture, APIs and data contracts, testing, security, reliability, observability, lineage, data quality, and operational ownership. Advance engineering standards for building with AI, including agentic workflows, evaluation, telemetry, adoption, and outcome measurement. Work across backend, full-stack, data, and big-d
About the team Online Data builds and operates Habitat, the single product surface of Online Data and the system of record for OpenAI’s online user data. As OpenAI’s scale and product requirements evolve, Habitat is becoming a full-stack, one-size-fits-most database platform with end-to-end ownership of: Provisioning and developer experience APIs and guardrails Scaling, performance, and reliability Data movement, caching, routing, and placement Privacy enforcement and access control Change Data Capture (CDC) as a first-class primitive The foundation for future storage backends You’ll work on the core online database platform behind OpenAI’s products, building and operating Habitat services that handle high-QPS, latency-sensitive workloads across regions. You’ll partner closely with internal platform and product teams to ship safe, reliable systems, then push them to be faster and more cost-efficient through better caching, routing, observability, and operational tooling. This is a critical role for engineers who like owning hard distributed-systems problems end to end and sweating the details from p99 latency to production operations at massive scale. In this role, you will Design and build core abstractions spanning storage, caching, routing, CDC, and privacy enforcement Own a major surface area end to end, from product and API design to operational excellence Improve latency, correctness, and cost efficiency for real production workloads at massive scale Build strong instrumentation, debugging workflows, and developer-first tooling Collaborate closely with internal product and infrastructure teams to understand requirements and ship pragmatic solutions Participate in an on-call rotation and raise the bar on reliability while aggressively improving performance and usability You might thrive in this role if you have A strong track record building and operating high-scale backend or data-intensive distributed systems in production Excellent systems judgment and the a

With millions of users worldwide, Replit is democratizing software development by removing traditional barriers to application creation. About the Team Product Platform builds and owns the shared foundations the rest of Replit is built on, spanning the full stack so every other team can ship features safely and quickly: backend infrastructure, connectors, product primitives, and the frontend platform. Our work is high-leverage and horizontal: when our foundations are solid every other team moves faster, and the role gives you exposure across the whole of engineering. Can a builder connect a third-party service once and have it work safely across every app they build? Are user-facing surfaces consistent and fast, with shared primitives teams can build on? Is our codebase easy to navigate, change, and extend, including for AI coding agents? What you’ll do Design reusable primitives and interfaces with clear contracts and documentation that other teams adopt Work directly with product teams to turn their friction into platform improvements Profile and instrument shared systems, then ship the improvements that move latency, cost, and reliability Harden systems against failure and abuse, and make safe defaults the path of least resistance Set technical direction in a
