About the team OpenAI’s Forward Deployed Engineering team partners with customers to turn research breakthroughs into production systems. We embed deeply with users to solve high-leverage problems. We move quickly from prototype to deployment and surface patterns that shape the platform. We operate at the intersection of customer delivery and core development. We work closely with Product, Research, and Go-To-Market (GTM). About the role We are hiring a Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) to build and deploy AI systems for legal work. You will embed deeply with customers—often working closely with senior legal practitioners—to identify the right first use case, rapidly prototype a solution, and prove measurable value. Early engagements may focus on creating a “hero” workflow that shows how OpenAI’s models can support legal analysis, drafting, research, or real-time work with complex case records. You will own the technical work from discovery and proof of concept through production adoption, while translating customer workflows and constraints into clear product feedback. As the motion matures, you will turn successful deployments into repeatable patterns that can scale across larger accounts and the broader legal market. This role is based in San Francisco or New York City. We use a hybrid work model of three days in the office per week and offer relocation assistance. Travel up to 50% may be required. In this role, you will Embed with law firms and legal teams to understand their workflows, identify high-value opportunities, and select the right initial use cases to prove value. Build full-stack systems that deliver customer value and sharpen how we learn Embed closely with customer teams, understand their needs, and guide adoption of what you build Make trade-offs between scope, speed, and quality; adjust plans to protect delivery Contribute directly in the code when progress or clarity depends on it Codify working patterns into tools, playbooks, or building blocks t

At Vanta, our mission is to help businesses earn and prove trust. We believe that security should be monitored and verified continuously, and we empower companies to practice better security and prove it with ease. Vanta has a kind and talented team, and while some have prior security experience, many have been successful at Vanta without it. Our Senior Software Engineers independently drive complex technical work, shape the systems and technical decisions within their teams, and enable other engineers to deliver high-quality, scalable solutions. Vanta's product monitors the security posture of thousands of companies, pulling tens of millions of API calls of data per day, pushing information from hundreds of thousands of laptop agents, and running tests against that data continuously to identify potential security threats. Our infrastructure and tooling need to stay ahead of exponential growth in our customer base. As a Senior Software Engineer at Vanta, you'll drive complex projects across our technical stack, contribute to the technical direction of your team, and mentor other engineers. Your past experience will be leveraged to enable and accelerate Vanta's growth. Visit our Vanta Engineering Blog to learn more about what our team is working on! Tests are at the heart of how Vanta continuously monitors security and compliance for our customers. The Test Core team builds the runtime platform that powers these checks. We own how Tests are scheduled and executed, how their results are persisted and exposed, and the systems that keep this runtime reliable as Vanta grows. In this role, you'll work on some of the core systems behind Vanta's Tests platform. You'll tackle problems around the reliability, correctness, and performance of Test execution, evolve the systems and abstractions that allow the platform to scale, and make it easier for other engineering teams to build on the Tests runtime. Many of these problems span multiple systems and teams and require a deep u

You will build the operating system for EPD — the systems, agents, and practices that make engineering, product, and design unreasonably effective at delivery, with Jira as the substrate. The EPD Systems team is building the infrastructure Vanta's engineering, product, and design organization depends on to understand itself and operate well. We're constructing three interlocking layers: sources of truth at the foundation, a shared interpretive layer that reasons across all of them, and the operating system that makes the work itself legible. This role owns the operating system. This is not a traditional PMO or status-reporting role. You build — agents, automation, workflow design, and the practices that make teams want to use the system rather than route around it. What you’ll do as a Senior Systems Designer at Vanta: Design and own workflow and hierarchy across engineering, product, and design in Jira Make sure Jira reflects real practice, and real practice reflects what needs to show up in Jira — in both directions Build the agents and automation that run the system yourself, with AI as part of how you work Drive adoption: go to the teams whose practice doesn't match the substrate today and change that — through conversation, well-built artifacts, or clear instruction that works without you in the room Understand delivery breakdowns at the mechanism level and build fixes that address the root cause, not the symptom Build alongside teammates who are growing into more technical work — raise their ceiling, not just your own output How to be successful in this role: You build and ship, recently, with AI as part of how you work. About the Team The Future of Computing Research team is an applied research team within OpenAI’s Consumer Devices group. We study how AI systems perceive people and their surroundings, and we turn that research into capabilities for future products. Our work spans machine learning, sensing, and hardware, with a focus on building systems that work beyond controlled environments. About the Role We’re looking for a machine learning engineer to help shape how future AI systems understand the physical world and the people in it. The role focuses on multimodal perception and authentication, bringing together signals from cameras, microphones, and other sensors. You’ll work with specialized perception models and larger multimodal models, and partner with hardware, firmware, software, and product teams to bring new research into real-world systems. This role is based in San Francisco. We work in the office three days per week and offer relocation assistance. In this role, you will: Research and develop multimodal perception and authentication methods across visual, audio, and other sensing signals. Explore how specialized perception models and larger multimodal models can work together. Design data, training, and evaluation approaches that improve performance in real-world conditions. Study model behavior, robustness, and failure modes across sensing, data, and deployment environments. Integrate and validate new capabilities in real-time or resource-constrained systems. Work with hardware, firmware, software, and product teams to turn research into working systems. You might thrive in this role if you: Have a strong background in computer vision, audio or speech machine learning, multimodal learning, or sensing. Have experience developing specialized machine learning models, larger multimodal models, or both. Have brought research ideas into practical systems, prototypes, or products. Know how to design experiments, build evaluations, and investigate model behavior. Have wo

Protect helps customers detect first-party fraud, synthetic identities, account takeovers, and coordinated attacks that are difficult to see from a single application, account, or transaction. Trust Index turns that fraud intelligence into real-time fraud scores and actionable attributes. This team builds the systems that make this intelligence possible: low-latency inference, new data and model integrations, customer-facing APIs and attributes, safe rollouts, and feedback loops. Ti3 expanded Plaid’s fraud graph nearly 10x and, in early testing, detected up to 41% more fraud at the same false-positive rate. Learn more about Ti2 and Ti3 .
