Lead Senior Junior Software Engineer 2c Code Generation in United States

About Us: AI needs a new infrastructure layer. We're building it at Modal. Every era of computing brought new workloads that previous infrastructure couldn't support: mainframes, databases, and the cloud. Each time, the company that rebuilt the layer underneath defined the decade. AI is no different, except it touches everything instead of one slice, and the window to build the layer underneath it is open right now. Our customers include category-defining companies like Lovable , Ramp , Cognition, DoorDash, and Suno. They rely on Modal for instant GPU access, sub-second container starts, and native storage, so it's simple to serve low-latency inference, fine-tune models, and access production-ready sandboxes at scale. We recently raised a $355M Series C at a $4.65B valuation, led by General Catalyst and Redpoint Ventures. We've crossed $300M+ ARR and grown fivefold since September. Our team includes creators of popular open-source projects (e.g., Seaborn , Luig i ), academic researchers, international olympiad medalists, and experienced engineering and product leaders with decades of experience. The Role: Most of the value of owning a model shows up at serving time. We're building a platform that covers the whole life of an LLM -- train it, deploy it, observe it -- and inference is where teams feel the difference every day. We already run elastic inference, sandboxes, distributed volumes, and multi-node training, and we control the infrastructure underneath, so the serving stack is ours to shape rather than something we resell. You will do hands-on inference research at Modal, working with the research lead to pick high-impact bets and owning them end to end. The bets that matter most are the ones that move cost per token and tail latency on the workloads our customers actually run. What you'll do: Own end-to-end inference research bets: speculative decoding, disaggregated prefill/decode, quantization (FP8, INT4), KV-cache and memory management, autoscaling for spik

Join us and help build the platform engineers turn to to ship AI products. THE ROLE Container runtimes were designed for general-purpose software workloads. AI inference is not a general-purpose workload. Running large models at production scale exposes cracks in every layer of the container stack: runtimes unaware of GPU memory constraints, images that take minutes to pull when a model needs to scale to thousands of replicas, and isolation mechanisms that weren't designed for the multi-tenant serving environments that production AI requires. The tools the industry has relied on for a decade weren't built for this, and patching around those limitations at higher layers only goes so far. Baseten owns the entire pipeline, from the moment a developer pushes a model to the moment a request gets a response. That vertical ownership means we can fix these problems at the root. The Runtime Fabrics team is doing exactly that: purpose-building the container runtime and storage layers for AI inference workloads, led by some of the world's top containerd maintainers. As Engineering Manager of the Runtime Fabrics team, you will lead this work, setting technical direction, growing a world-class team of systems engineers, and ensuring the team's output shapes not just Baseten's infrastructure but the open-source container ecosystem at large. If you've contributed to containerd, runc, or related OCI projects and are ready to lead a team solving some of the hardest problems in infrastructure today, we'd love

We're growing quickly and recently raised our $1.5B Series F , led by Altimeter Capital, Conviction Partners, and Spark Capital. Join us and help build the platform engineers turn to to ship AI products. THE ROLE Baseten is building its own GPU infrastructure for large-scale inference. As we move into large scale, high-density NVIDIA systems, the hardest failures are intermittent, cross-layer, and difficult to prove: RoCE congestion, InfiniBand stalls, ECN/DCQCN mis-tuning, bad optics, RNIC issues, host kernel stalls, GPU driver problems, and workload symptoms that look like network problems, but are not. We are hiring a Lead Software Engineer to build a first-class observability and root-cause analysis system for GPU fabrics. This is a hard distributed systems problem, not a dashboarding problem. The system will collect high-volume signals from switches, hosts, active probes, and inference services; reduce and correlate them in real time; understand topology and service ownership; and produce actionable diagnosis while an incident is still unfolding. This role sits at the boundary between networking and inference software. RDMA data paths, GPUDirect transfers, prefill/decode disaggregation, KV cache movement, request routing, and workload backpressure can all create fabric symptoms or hide real fabric failures. The goal is to tell an operator, quickly and with evidence, whether an incident is caused by the fabric, host, NIC, GPU, RDMA path, scheduler, or serving layer — and what to do next. EXAMPLE INITIATIVES Real-time telemetry engine — Build the ingestion, reduction, storage, and query path for high-cardinality fab

THE ROLE We're looking for a Marketing Operations Manager who can own and harden the systems layer of Baseten's Marketing engine. Marketing at Baseten is scaling fast — more spend, more campaigns, more model launches, more inbound. The systems underneath (Our ESP, CRMs, forms, tracking, routing, alerting) need an owner who treats them like production infrastructure that cannot go down. When something breaks, it costs us time, pipeline, and trust in the data. This role exists so it doesn't break. You’ll simultaneously build for the future and re-think assumptions about our tech stack in the age of agents. This is an offensive play that gives the rest of the team leverage and superpowers to hit our ambitious goals. This is NOT an IT or service role. This is a core member of the marketing team who implements technology to achieve outcomes. RESPONSIBILTIES Own the marketing tech stack end-to-end: ad platforms, email systems, tracking, pixels, forms, connectors. Build defense-in-depth on inbound: spam/bot protection, rate limiting, email/domain validation, sync gating — and the alerting to catch anomalies before they hit sales or leadership dashboards. Enforce data integrity: UTM governance, campaign membership, lifecycle stages, lead scoring and routing logic, field-level hygiene, canonical metric definitions. Operationalize the web request pipeline with our dev agency: structured briefs, tickets, SLAs, and launch-day runb

THE ROLE At Baseten, we’re looking for a Technical Program Manager to drive our most complex, cross-cutting infrastructure programs. This role will operate across all domains of AI infrastructure, from the GPUs up to the multi-cluster orchestration layer. This is an execution-first role. We believe that as LLM and multi-modal workloads scale, the network is the computer. We are looking for foundational engineers to lead our GPU Networking efforts, making RDMA a first-class building block in our infrastructure and unlocking the next generation of distributed inference optimizations. THE OPPORTUNITY Networking and compute are no longer separate disciplines; they are converging. The massive throughput of H100, B200, and NVL72 architectures enables and demands a new approach where communication is co-optimized alongside computation. We are entering an era where the network is an active accelerator, leveraging smart hardware offloads and direct interconnects to ensure that data movement operates at wire-speed. In this role, you will go beyond network configuration to architect the software fabric that unifies thousands of GPUs into a cohesive operating system. While you will leverage the best of the open-source ecosystem, you won't be limited by it. Where off-the-shelf solutions stop, you will build from scratch, engineering the primitives required to co-optimize communication and compute for Disaggregated Serving, Wide Expert Parallelism (WideEP), and lightening cold starts.
