About the Team OpenAI’s Application Engineering team builds the internal products and platforms that help OpenAI operate securely and at scale. We engineer, own, and evolve OpenAI’s core productivity ecosystem, creating secure applications, integrations, automation, and reusable tooling where off-the-shelf software is not enough. Our work spans employee-facing experiences and the services, APIs, control planes, and governance that make them reliable, permission-aware, and scalable. We also act as a customer zero for OpenAI’s technology, building the enterprise foundations that let employees and agents safely access the context, tools, and actions they need. We partner closely with IT, Security, product teams, and platform providers to turn company-wide problems into durable systems, learn from real internal workflows, and help shape the products we deploy. We create paved paths that let teams move quickly without compromising security or operational quality. About the Role As a Staff Software Engineer on Agent Productivity, you will shape the foundation that enables teams to build agents with secure access to the context and capabilities they need. Slack will be the first and deepest implementation surface—and where you spend most of your time—owning its application architecture, integrations, APIs, governance, and administration automation while building patterns that extend to internal systems, identity platforms, and other enterprise applications. This is a hands-on engineering role with broad organizational impact as agents support more employee workflows. You will define platform architecture, build reusable foundations, and establish secure patterns for identity, permissions, connectivity, and operations that make agents easier to develop, deploy, and manage. In this role, you will: Own the technical strategy and architecture that enable teams to build, connect, and deploy agents quickly and safely, using Slack as the primary implementation surface. Our projects range from greenfield 0-1 products like OpenHouse (our internal knowledge hub) to AI-powered automations and scalable recruiting tools. We’re defining the future of work at OpenAI, creating a blueprint for how AI can supercharge productivity, culture, and innovation. About the Role We’re seeking a Data Engineer to build data-intensive systems that will power People Innovation Labs’ internal products and enable the People Analytics function to do their best work. These data pipelines are crucial for our build-out of people products backed by business systems of record and for ongoing people data analytics. One example of an employee-facing product you’ll help us build is OpenHouse, which serves as a culture and communication hub and an organization-wide front door into all other aspects of People Innovation Labs’ work. OpenHouse and other products in our portfolio are built by full stack product engineers who are deeply curious about culture, recruiting and people development, and want to know everything from the business strategy and metrics down through the code that gets us there. In this role, you will work with People Innovation Labs leadership and software engineers and the People Analytics team to build the data systems that enable this work. In this role, you will: Design, build and manage people data pipelines, ensuring all data is seamlessly integrated into our Databricks warehouse. Join us and help build the platform engineers turn to to ship AI products. THE ROLE Baseten's engineers want to work in an AI-first way. What's missing isn't enthusiasm — it's the platform underneath it. Today everyone assembles their own agent config, context files, and MCP servers, so the good patterns stay trapped in individual setups instead of becoming defaults everyone inherits. You'll build that platform: the agent configurations tuned to our monorepo, the context and tooling layer that makes agents competent in our codebase, the evals that tell us which approaches actually work, and the rollout mechanics that get a new engineer productive with agents in week one. You are not here to mandate how engineers use AI — you're here to make the good path the easy path. Success looks like teams adopting what you build because it beats what they'd cobble together themselves, not because a policy requires it. Platform engineer, not AI evangelist. Ship infrastructure, measure it, kill what doesn't work, let adoption be the referee. The playbook for AI-first SDLC doesn't exist at any company yet. You'll write ours. WHAT YOU'LL BUILD Agent substrate — Repo-level context infrastructure that makes agents competent in our codebase ( CLAUDE.md/AGENTS.md conventions, architecture and domain context, and the tooling to keep it accurate as code moves). These teams own the systems responsible for serving models reliably, efficiently, and safely across Codex, ChatGPT, API, and internal research workloads. We’re hiring a Developer Productivity Engineer to help scale the engineering systems, safeguards, and developer workflows that enable our teams to move quickly without compromising reliability or performance. This role sits at the intersection of developer experience, CI/CD infrastructure, release engineering, production readiness, and inference systems reliability. You’ll work on the tooling and operational foundations that support model launches, inference optimizations, cloud provider integrations, and large-scale deployments across a rapidly evolving inference stack. About the Role We’re looking for an autonomous, high-ownership engineer who cares deeply about making other engineers faster, safer, and more confident. A major focus of this role will be improving the tooling and infrastructure around deploy gates for inference engine images. These systems help ensure that every image released to production and research is correct, numerically sound, free of regressions, and performant across key metrics like time-to-first-token (TTFT) and time-between-tokens (TBT). You’ll help harden the systems that catch issues before they reach production, reduce noise from flaky or infrastructure-related test failures, and improve automation around triage, ownership, debugging, and escalation when failures occur. You’ll also work on improving observability, rollout safety, release automation, and developer self-service tooling across a rapidly evolving inference stack. This is not generic internal tools work. The systems you build directly impact OpenAI’s ability to support new model launches, safely ship inference optimizations to the world, onboard new infrastructure providers, and operate one of the largest and most p

About the Role The Engineering Acceleration team builds and operates the foundational systems that engineers use to build, test, and ship ChatGPT, the API, and OpenAI's infrastructure. We are looking for an engineer to help evolve OpenAI's build and continuous integration systems for a fast-growing engineering organization. This role sits at the intersection of developer productivity, build systems, distributed infrastructure, and software quality. You will work on the systems that determine how quickly and confidently engineers can move: Bazel-based builds, Buildkite pipelines, test selection, remote caching and execution, CI observability, and tooling that helps engineers understand and fix failures quickly. Our mission is to make OpenAI one of the most productive engineering organizations in the world while preserving a high bar for correctness, reliability, and safety. The best version of this work is invisible when it succeeds: builds are fast, tests are trusted, CI failures are understandable, and engineers can focus on shipping useful systems instead of fighting infrastructure. In This Role, You Will Own and evolve Bazel-based build and test workflows across a large, polyglot monorepo. Design and maintain Starlark rules, macros, toolchains, and integrations that make builds reproducible, hermetic, and easy for product teams to adopt. Something magical happens when people can quickly and confidently iterate on a simple codebase, but this magic is fragile and must be fought for. When you see someone trip over something, no matter how small, your first instinct is asking yourself what it would take for that to not happen again. Your second instinct is clicking merge on the PR you’ve already written to make it so. You are pragmatic. You have the ability to see the world through a perfectionist’s eyes, but are not yourself a perfectionist.
