We believe that security should be monitored and verified continuously, and we empower companies to practice better security and prove it with ease. Vanta has a kind and talented team, and while some have prior security experience, many have been successful at Vanta without it. As a Staff Software Engineer on the Automation - Foundations team, you will lead the re-platforming of the data layer underneath Vanta’s entire compliance product. This is a migration that spans multiple teams, has to preserve every public API contract along the way, and cannot lose a single customer’s evidence while it happens. Foundations is Vanta’s data platform team. We ingest security and compliance data from across our customer’s environments, currently tens of thousands of resources per second, with single-customer bursts running into the millions. We store the data, catalog it, make it queryable, and turn it into evidence that has to survive a real SOC 2 or FedRAMP audit. We are in the middle of moving our platform from a Mongo-centric architecture to a schema-aware, Postgres-backed architecture, on a Kafka and S3 pipeline that decouples data fetching from processing. Both pipelines run in parallel today, the hard problems here are correctness under migration, eventual consistency, and multi-tenancy, in a domain where “mostly right” is not an acceptable failure mode. Visit our Vanta Engineering Blog to learn more about what our team is working on. What you'll do as a Staff Software Engineer at Vanta: Lead the migration of Vanta’s resource data model from a Mongo-centric solution to a schema-aware Postgres-backed solution and running both generations in parallel without breaking a customer integration. Drive solutions across teams that you do not own but are dependent on the platform built by your team. Design for correctness under eventual consistency with idempotent session handling, conditional writes that survive out

In this role, you’ll help define the foundations of reliability at Vanta including shaping best practices, building core infrastructure, and guiding teams as they design services that perform consistently for customers. This team will have a broad and deep impact across product engineering. Your work will influence how every Vanta engineer builds, deploys, monitors, and maintains their services, whether for our commercial environment or regulated customers with more stringent requirements. You’ll develop tools and frameworks that make it easier to detect and remediate issues, improve operational readiness, and support feature development that meets the needs of increasingly large and complex enterprise customers. This is a hands-on, high-impact role for an experienced engineer who is passionate about protecting user data while enabling innovation. What You’ll Do Design, build, and operate backend services that enforce policy-driven data access, lifecycle controls, and privacy protections. Develop distributed authorization and identity-aware enforcement mechanisms integrated directly into data services and control planes. Implement auditability, policy hooks, and enforcement observability to ensure compliance is continuously verifiable. Partner with Security, Legal, and Compliance to convert privacy requirements into scalable technical designs and developer-friendly APIs. Harden data platforms and backend services through schema-level controls and data handling constraints by default. Collaborate with infrastructure teams to ensure consistent enforcement across systems while minimizing duplicated implementations. Replit is the agentic software creation platform that enables anyone to build applications using natural language. With millions of users worldwide, Replit is democratizing software development by removing traditional barriers to application creation. About the Team Product Platform builds and owns the shared foundations the rest of Replit is built on, spanning the full stack so every other team can ship features safely and quickly. Identity & Authorization defines how people, agents, sandboxes, and services prove who they are and what they can do. These systems protect critical product and service interactions across Replit's web product, Agent, enterprise controls, and internal services. Our work is high-leverage and horizontal: when identity and policy are clear, reliable, and easy to adopt, every other team can move faster without rebuilding security controls. We are a small, collaborative team that values curiosity and clear thinking over pedigree, and we work in the open by bringing each other the problem rather than just the request. We care more about how you reason and build than the route you took to get here. About the Role As a Software Engineer , you will design, build, and operate the identity and authorization systems that protect critical interactions on Replit, including Agent acting on behalf of a user or holding their own identity. The work is guided by a few simple questions: Can every protected request prove which workload made it, which principal it represents, and who is acting on that principal's behalf? Can product teams express policy once and trust the same decision across web, mobile, Agent, and internal services? Can enterprise administrators control who can access each workspace, app, connector, and Agent capability without navigating a permission maze as well as having a legible ledger of decisions? Can Agent act for a user across long-running and durable work without receiving broad or long-lived credentials? Are identity and auth
