About the Role OpenAI's Hardware organization builds supercompute platforms from silicon and boards to full rack-scale systems to power advanced AI workloads. This role owns end-to-end quality for high-speed interconnect hardware across the product lifecycle: early design influence, supplier/contract manufacturer readiness, qualification, ramp, and fleet quality in lab and data center environments. You will be the quality lead for advanced interconnect components and assemblies, including high-speed copper cables, cable cartridges, patch panels, backplane/cable-backplane solutions, high-speed connectors, and related electro-mechanical interfaces. You will partner closely with electrical, mechanical, SI/PI, systems, reliability, operations, and external vendors to prevent escapes and drive rapid, data-driven containment and corrective action. In this role you will: Own quality for advanced interconnect components and assemblies: high-speed connectors, high-speed copper cables, cable cartridges (e.g., cable cassette style assemblies), patch panels & optics, and backplane/cable-backplane interconnect solutions. Drive quality-by-design: participate in design reviews, DFM/DFx, tolerance stacks, material and plating selections, connector mating strategy, strain relief, and assembly methods to reduce variation and field failures. Define and track quality and reliability metrics (DPPM, yield, escapes, RMA/FRACAS trends, Cpk/Ppk where applicable) for interconnects across NPI and m

About the Team OpenAI's Industrial Compute organization is building the world's most advanced AI infrastructure ecosystem. We work closely with hardware design teams, manufacturing partners, suppliers, and data center operations to deliver the compute platforms that power frontier AI. The Manufacturing Engineering team ensures our hardware can be built, tested, deployed, and supported at hyperscale. We bridge Hardware Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, Contract Manufacturers, and Hardware Operations to continuously improve manufacturing performance throughout the product lifecycle. As our fleet grows globally, sustaining manufacturing engineering becomes increasingly important to maintain product quality, improve manufacturability, and rapidly resolve production issues. About the Role We are seeking a PCBA Manufacturing Engineer (Sustaining) to support production and continuous improvement of printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs) used throughout Industrial Compute hardware platforms. This role focuses on sustaining engineering after product launch. You'll partner closely with Hardware Design, Quality, Manufacturing, Test Engineering, Supply Chain, and our contract manufacturers to resolve production issues, improve manufacturing yield, reduce failures, implement engineering changes, and ensure stable high-volume manufacturing. The ideal candidate has experience supporting complex server, networking, accelerator, storage, or high-performance electronics manufacturing environments. Key Responsibilities Own sustaining manufacturing engineering for PCBA production across multiple hardware platforms. Drive root cause investigations for manufacturing defects, field failures, and production escapes. Partner with Hardware Design Engineers to improve manufacturability (DFM/DFA/DFT). Support engineering change orders (ECOs) and manufacturing change implementation. Work directly with contract manufacturers to improve production yield, cycle time, and quality. Analyze manuf

SpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. Today, SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of making life multiplanetary and expanding consciousness to the stars. SpaceXSI is building Super Intelligence to help humanity understand the universe. Our teams are building the full Super Intelligence stack: from our Colossus supercomputers, to Grok models, to our suite of applications, including Grok Bot, Grok Build, Grok Imagine, Grok Voice, and X. We're creating a powerful flywheel where more compute trains better models, better models power more useful products, and what we learn from people using those products shapes what we build next. ABOUT THE ROLE: Determine true root cause of fleet hardware failures — component and system level — and drive fixes through vendors to the manufacturer. Turn "swap it again" into "vendor redesign / firmware fix / manufacturing escape found." RESPONSIBILITIES: Own named failure classes across GPU trays/baseboards, NIC/DPU, motherboard/PCIe switch, memory, power, thermal, cables/connectors, and rack-scale patterns. Run recurrence analysis and fleet-wide defect clustering; detect systemic patterns before they become fleet-scale loss. Build vendor technical escalation packages with evidence quality that forces action; partner with OEM/ODM/component manufacturers on firmware, bring-up, and manufacturing escapes through committed CAPA. Feed findings into RMA policy, spare strategy, and "do not reseat forever" stop-rules. Work the FA intake queue on rotation; keep queue age within SLA BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience). 2+ years of experience in hardware reliability engineering, preferably in high-performance computing or data center environments. Proven expertise in fir
