ABOUT BASETEN Baseten powers mission-critical inference for the world's most dynamic AI companies, like Cursor, Notion, OpenEvidence, Abridge, Clay, Gamma and Writer. By uniting applied AI research, flexible infrastructure, and seamless developer tooling, we enable companies operating at the frontier of AI to bring cutting-edge models into production. We're growing quickly and recently raised our $1.5B Series F , led by Altimeter Capital, Conviction Partners, and Spark Capital. Join us and help build the platform engineers turn to to ship AI products. Product at Baseten Product at Baseten is a nascent function. Our company today has a strong engineering culture, is heavily customer-obsessed, and moves fast. We're building the product function now, and you'd be one of the people who defines it. You'll work directly with our founders and with some of the best systems and AI engineers and you'll set the standard for what product looks like here. PMs at Baseten don't sit above engineers - you earn ownership by being technical, finding the truth in front of customers, building great cross-functional relationships, and just shipping great product experiences. The role Once a model is deployed, keeping it fast, reliable, and economical at scale is where production inference is won or lost. You'll own the surface that makes that happen: how deployments autoscale, how traffic is routed, how the system fails over, and how workloads scale across clusters and regions. You'll own these as products end to end - both how they work under the hood and how customers configure and observe them - and you'll help set and define the roadmap that infrastructure and product teams alike can build towards. This space is largely still evolving - think Cloud Infrastructure in mid-2000s. Your job is to make it 10x easier to reliably scale and serve AI models in production and set the market standard. Impact and outcomes you'll drive You will own how workloads scale and where they land β autosca

AI Systems Engineer - Codex Core Agents About The Team The Codex Core Agents team builds the agent harness that turns model capability into real-world action. We own the systems around the model: prompting and interpreting model outputs, executing actions safely in real environments, and feeding production experience back into better models and better agent behavior. This team sits close to research and works across the stack: harness, model interaction, inference, sandboxed execution, orchestration, evals, production reliability, and the performance envelope around tokens, latency, cost, capacity, and quality. The harness is open source and increasingly part of how models are trained and evaluated, making this one of the highest-leverage layers in Codex. About The Role Weβre looking for engineers to build the AI systems that make Codex agents dependable in production. The ideal candidate is an agent-systems builder: hands-on across low-level systems and ML workflows, able to debug Codex behavior end to end across the harness, model behavior, inference/runtime stack, GPU fleet, and product surface. Youβll work with research, infrastructure, and product to design agent harness capabilities, run experiments and ablations across the model + system prompt + harness stack, build frameworks for assessing production agent performance, and turn messy failures into durable improvements. What Youβll Do Design and build the core agent harness and execution loop that lets Codex agents interpret model outputs, use tools, execute code, and complete long-horizon tasks safely. Build sandboxing, isolation, orchestration, state, and workflow infrastructure for agents operating in real development environments. Develop evaluation, experimentation, and debugging systems that distinguish harness issues, model behavior, inference/runtime issues, and product failures. Run ablations across prompts, model-facing interfaces, context construction, tool-use strategies, and harness behavior to
The Team + The Role Our Emerging Team is focused on building AI Products for our product experience (PX) platform. We build from the ground up to explore, prototype, and ship AI-native experiences that change how software teams understand and serve their users. This is not an AI layer added to existing product; it is a deliberate bet on what product intelligence looks like next. The team operates with high autonomy, moves quickly, and builds products without clear precedents. As a Sr. Software Engineer (AI), you will sit at the intersection of deep technical capability and strong product judgment. You will design and ship applied AI systems, including RAG pipelines, agentic workflows, and LLM-powered features, from prototype through production. You will make principled technical decisions, evaluate model behavior rigorously, and communicate tradeoffs clearly to engineers and non-engineers alike. This role is based in our New York office. What this looks like day-to-day Applied AI systems: Design and build AI systems including RAG pipelines, agentic workflows, and LLM-powered features. You will take work from prototype through production and ensure it can hold up in real customer environments. Technical decision-making: Make principled decisions on when to prompt, when to fine-tune, and when to use a different tool entirely. You will explain these tradeoffs clearly so the team can move quickly without sacrificing quality. Model evaluation: Instrument and evaluate model outputs rigorously by defining evaluation frameworks and catching hallucinations early. You will implement guardrails that can withstand real-world load and production use. Productionize AI ownership: Own model deployment, monitoring, latency optimization, cost management, and reliability at scale. You will help ensure AI systems are observable, efficient, and dependable in production. Full-stack product shipping: Contribute across the stack when needed because this team ships products, not just models
Become a part of our caring community Most AI engineering jobs are a thin wrapper around a model API. This role is different. We build the platform that transforms millions of clinical documents into trusted, actionable data. Our systems use large language models (LLMs) to read medical records, extract structured facts, answer complex questions with citations back to the source document, and route ambiguous cases to human experts for review. Our users make decisions that impact real healthcare outcomes, so βgood enoughβ is not good enough. Building AI systems that are accurate, reliable, auditable, and scalable is at the core of this role. As a Senior AI Applied Engineer, you will design, build, deploy, and operate production AI systems used at scale within one of the largest health insurers in the United States. You will own solutions end-to-end, from user experience and APIs to model orchestration, evaluation frameworks, infrastructure, and production operations. Why Join Us Build production AI systems where LLMs are in the critical path, not just demos or proofs of concept. Work on extraction, retrieval, agentic workflows, and human-review systems that process real healthcare data at scale. Own projects end-to-end across frontend, backend, AI orchestration, infrastructure, deployment, and operations. Solve challenging problems around accuracy, explainability, traceability, and reliability in regulated environments. Ship quickly in a small, high-impact team that embraces AI-assisted development and rigorous quality standards. Build systems that continuously improve through expert feedback, evaluations, and human-in-the-loop workflows. Key Responsibilities Design, develop, and deploy full-stack AI-powered application
