About The Team The Data Understanding team is responsible for creating the high quality datasets and their quantized representation for OpenAI. This includes synthesizing data, building VQ representations, and processing, filtering, deduplication, quality control, and tokenization so it can be used effectively in big model training runs. About The Role We're looking to advance how OpenAI builds and understands pretraining data at scale. You'll treat data quality and curation as core research problems: developing new methods to select, combine, and transform data; creating datasets that improve model capabilities; and designing rigorous experiments to understand how data choices and interventions affect model learning and downstream behavior. You'll work closely with frontier models and web-scale data to build evidence for which approaches work and why, then translate successful research into scalable data processing pipelines We Expect You To Have a strong track record of new or improved ML ideas, through publications, projects, or applied research. Own and drive a research agenda, from choosing the right problems to carrying long-running work through to impact. Be excited by OpenAI’s empirical, collaborative approach to research. Nice To Have Thoughtfulness about AI’s impact, including privacy, provenance, and data quality. Experience building high-performance deep learning or large-scale data processing systems. About OpenAI OpenAI is an AI research and deployment company dedicated to ensuring that general-purpose artificial intelligence benefits all of humanity. We push the boundaries of the capabilities of AI systems and seek to safely deploy them to the world through our products. AI is an extremely powerful tool that must be created with safety and human needs at its core, and to achieve our mission, we must encompass and value the many different perspectives, voices, and experiences that form the full spectrum of humanity. We are an equal opportunity employer

About the Team OpenAI’s Applied AI Engineering team helps organizations turn frontier AI capabilities into safe, reliable, and high-impact production systems. We work with customer executives, product and engineering teams, security leaders, and transformation teams to identify valuable opportunities, accelerate technical implementation, and scale what works. Enterprise deployments are defined by complexity rather than any one industry: existing architectures, diverse data environments, security and governance requirements, multiple stakeholder groups, and organization-wide change. We turn lessons from these deployments into better products and reusable patterns for customers everywhere. About the Role As an Applied AI Engineer you will partner directly with leading organizations to design, build, and deploy AI systems that deliver measurable business outcomes. You will combine deep technical judgment, hands-on engineering, and customer leadership to take ambitious ideas from use-case selection and architecture through prototyping, evaluation, production launch, and scale. You will write and debug code, build evaluation systems, resolve complex integrations, and guide decisions involving model behavior, reliability, latency, cost, safety, security, governance, and operational readiness. Success is measured by production systems, sustained adoption, and meaningful customer impact—not simply activity or successful demonstrations. This is a rare opportunity to work on consequential real-world deployments at the frontier of AI while directly influencing how OpenAI’s products evolve. This role is based in London. We use a hybrid work model of 3 days in the office per week and offer relocation assistance to new employees In this role, you will: Partner directly with enterprise customers to identify high-value opportunities and translate them into technical architectures, implementation plans, evaluation strategies, and measurable success criteria. About the Team The Plugin Developer Platform team builds the APIs, SDKs, and tools that let people extend ChatGPT and Codex. We work on plugins, connectors, the Model Context Protocol (MCP), and interactive apps. We want anyone to be able to turn a useful workflow into a plugin, share it, and have other people use it. A plugin can package instructions and skills with connections to the tools and data it needs. Our work covers plugin creation and publishing, the systems that run plugins across our products, and open standards that developers can build on. About the Role We’re looking for platform-minded engineers who know what it takes to build a platform developers want to use. You’ll work across developer-facing interfaces, APIs, and backend systems. You’ll own features from the first developer conversation through implementation and release. You’ll talk directly with developers, partners, and the open-source community. Their experience will inform the APIs and abstractions you design, the problems you prioritize, and the tradeoffs you make. This role is based in San Francisco. We use a hybrid work model of 3 days in the office per week and offer relocation assistance to new employees. What You’ll Do Design and ship APIs, SDKs, and services that developers use to extend ChatGPT and Codex. Make plugins easier to create, test, publish, update, and share. Improve compatibility and consistency across ChatGPT and Codex, including interactive app experiences. Contribute to MCP and other open standards, bringing practical developer needs into their design. Work with developers and partners to understand recurring problems and improve the platform, tooling, and documentation. Work with Product, Research, Security, and Trust & Safety on permissions, compatibility, and safe, reliable execution. You Might Thrive Here If You Have built software that other developers use. Team Frontend within Supabase owns tooling for the marketing/docs website and the core product called “Studio” Its used by millions of developers around the world building insanely cool applications. We live and die by user feedback and relentlessly address issues every day to make the product better! What You’ll Own Ship products 0→1 and then earn the next version from users. You’ll take features from a blank editor to real users in production, then use what you learn (support threads, usage data, direct conversations) to decide what to build next. We want someone who has done this before: launched something, watched real people use it, and improved it on the strength of that feedback rather than a spec handed down from above. Own the quality pipeline, not just the feature. In a world where an agent writes a large share of the code, fast, the CI is what keeps that speed safe. You’ll build and tighten the layered checks that let us move quickly without breaking things: type safety at the boundaries, lint and format, unit and component tests, contract tests against our APIs, accessibility, visual regression, and bundle-size budgets, so a red check tells you (or the agent) exactly what to fix before anything reaches users. Make sure a bug caught once is caught forever. When something slips through, you don’t just patch it. You add the check that would have caught it, at the cheapest stage that can, so the same regression can’t happen twice. Work end-to-end and in the open. Frontend UI, the API contracts it depends on, preview deploys, observability. You’ll operate autonomously across the stack and do it publicly, in a codebase thousands of developers read and contribute to. What You’ll Bring A track record of taking a product from 0→1. You’ve launched something real, put it in front of users, and iterated based on how they actually used it, ideally something you can point us to. Deep frontend fundamentals with strong React.
