Company Name: tastytrade Role: Senior Site Reliability Engineer - Linux Systems & Application Observability Location: Chicago, IL (Hybrid, 3 days/week in office) Role Summary Come join tastytrade, part of IG Group, as we build the reliability practice behind the brokerage platform that active options, futures, and equities traders rely on every market day. As our first Senior Site Reliability Engineer, you'll harden the systems behind order execution and market data delivery — designing for fault tolerance, closing gaps in our telemetry, and making sure our HashiCorp Nomad-based service fabric scales cleanly as trading volume grows. You'll work embedded alongside our infrastructure and application engineering teams, contributing directly to our Ruby, Java, and Elixir services. This is a rare opportunity to shape a practice and a culture from day one, on a platform where every order, quote, and position has to be right, because real client capital is on the line. What You'll Do (Job Responsibilities) • Build self-healing, fault-tolerant infrastructure and internal tooling that automates repetitive operational work and reduces toil for Platform and Application teams. • Run gap analysis across our observability stack to find blind spots in telemetry, logging, and alerting coverage, then close them so failures surface before customers feel them. • Own scalability work across our HashiCorp Nomad service fabric: capacity planning, load testing, and identifying architectural bottlenecks before they become incidents. • Extend our observability stack (Prometheus, Honeycomb, OpenTelemetry) with the instrumentation needed to actually see the failure modes above. • Set SLOs and error budgets with multi-window burn-rate alerting for critical brokerage flows, once the fault-tolerance and telemetry foundation is in place. • Mentor engineers across teams to build a culture of site reliability champions so the practice outlives any one person. You'll drive the strategy for our CI/CD pipelines, cloud infrastructure, and infrastructure-as-code, working closely with the engineers who build and operate them. This is a hands-on, technical role. You'll be trusted to dig into architecture and tooling decisions alongside engineers, make prioritization calls, and represent infrastructure priorities clearly to leadership. Prioritize and sequence infrastructure work against the needs of application teams building customer-facing trading platforms, account opening flows, and internal tools. Partner with infrastructure engineers to improve build/test/deploy workflows so engineers can ship changes to production quickly and safely. Lead build-vs-buy evaluations for infrastructure tooling and vendors (e.g., containerization, observability, config management), weighing cost, speed, security, and long-term scalability. Company: tastytrade Role: Software Engineer (Ruby) Location: Chicago, IL — Hybrid Salary: $130,000-$150,000 As a Software Engineer you will be part of a team that builds out the technology powering our retail brokerage business and supporting our other business initiatives. We care about the speed and stability of our back-end systems as much as we care about the customer-facing applications we build. Our architecture is distributed and consistently evolving as our business grows and we face different technical challenges, but always with a focus on practicality and performance. You'll help by modifying existing systems, taking ownership of current systems as well as green field projects, and troubleshooting issues as they arise. Our engineers work with a plethora of tools including Java, Javascript, and Ruby. You'll work primarily in Ruby but will have opportunities to expand your skill set into areas where your interests and our technology intersect. Ruby doesn't have to be your primary language today. If you're strong in another object-oriented language — Java, for example — and you're genuinely keen to make Ruby your day-to-day, we'd like to hear from you. Our technical interview is conducted in Ruby wherever possible, so you'd need to be comfortable enough to code in it by the time we meet. What You'll Do Work in multiple languages across different parts of the tastytrade stack and/or front-end trading client applications. Design, build and maintain services in a distributed architecture, thinking about failure modes, latency and data consistency as you go. Provide guidance and leadership to more junior members of the team when questions arise about language or implementation specifics, and contribute in a meaningful way to our peer review process. Translate requirements and technical direction into production-quality code with lightweight guidance from a senior engin
