About the Team OpenAI's mission is to ensure that artificial general intelligence benefits all of humanity. The U.S. Policy and Partnerships team sits within Global Affairs and helps translate that mission into trusted, practical engagement with civil society, community leaders, researchers, and other external stakeholders across the United States. Our current operating model is built around disciplined, cross-functional campaigns: moving from abstract persuasion to local proof, pairing policy expertise with real-world use cases, and working with trusted validators who can help communities understand, shape, and benefit from AI. The team works closely with colleagues across Global Affairs, Legal, Safety, Communications, Product, Research, and other functions to build relationships that are substantive, durable, and grounded in two-way learning. About the Role As U.S. External Affairs Associate, you will work with the team leads to help advance OpenAI's engagement with civil rights organizations, civil society groups, researchers, community-based organizations, and other external stakeholders shaping the AI policy debate in the United States. This role is central to the team's partnership and outreach operating model. You will help identify priority stakeholders, design engagement strategies, and build the external relationships and feedback loops. The work is not about one-way education; it is about co-design, listening, product and policy learning, and creating concrete proof points that can strengthen public trust. Reporting to the External Affairs Lead, you will work across the U.S. Policy and Partnerships team and in close coordination with State and Local Policy, Federal Affairs, Communications, Safety, Legal, Product, and Research. OpenAI is evolving quickly as we release new research, products, and tools. Day-to-day work may include representing OpenAI at convenings, designing a stakeholder strategy around a fast-moving policy issue, organizing partner briefi

About the Team OpenAI’s mission is to ensure the responsible and widespread adoption of artificial intelligence. In support of that mission, the Marketing team helps deeply understand customer audiences and market dynamics, influence the development of the right products, build sustainable and customer-aligned monetization models, and drive awareness, adoption, and usage across OpenAI’s products and platform. We take a data-driven approach to understand markets, develop monetization strategies, and uncover customer needs that shape product strategy and messaging. We partner closely with Sales, Partnerships, Product, Engineering, Research, Comms, and Design to deliver a cohesive end-to-end customer experience and lead go-to-market efforts for new product launches across channels. About the Role As a Product Marketing Manager, Research & Safety , you will shape how the world understands OpenAI’s frontier research and our approach to developing AI responsibly. You will establish the strategic narrative for some of the company’s most important research themes—including frontier capabilities, safety, preparedness, reasoning, and compute—and translate complex technical work into clear, credible stories for researchers, policymakers, and the broader public, working with cross-functional teams to translate that messaging and reach developers and enterprise. Working closely with Research, Safety Systems, Policy, Communications, and Product teams, you’ll lead the go-to-market strategy and messaging for major research and safety initiatives. You’ll develop narratives that build trust, translating technical concepts into tangible artifacts and messaging, drive industry understanding of emerging evaluation frameworks, and help communicate OpenAI’s unique perspective on responsible frontier AI development. You’ll also identify creative and non-traditional ways to bring these stories to the audiences that matter most. In this role, you will: Establish the strategic narrative f
About the Team Our Safety Systems team is at the forefront of OpenAI's mission to build and deploy safe AGI, driving our commitment to AI safety and fostering a culture of trust and transparency. The Model Policy team aligns model behavior with desired human values and norms. We co-design policy with models and for models by driving rapid policy taxonomy iteration based on data and defining evaluation criteria for foundational models’ ability to reason about safety. Key focus areas include: catastrophic risk, mental health, teen safety and multimodal safety. About the Role Providing access to frontier AI systems raises complex questions around dual-use science and catastrophic risk. How should models respond to requests involving chemical synthesis, biological experimentation, or pathogen research? Where is the boundary between legitimate scientific inquiry and information that could enable misuse? How do we design policies that meaningfully reduce risk without unnecessarily restricting beneficial research? This is a senior role in which you’ll help shape policy creation and development at OpenAI for addressing biological and chemical risks. You will develop structured policy frameworks and taxonomies to guide safe model behavior. This role sits at the intersection of biosecurity expertise, AI safety research, and policy design. You will help ensure that frontier AI systems can support beneficial life sciences research, such as drug discovery, public health, and biosafety, while reducing the risk that these capabilities could be misused.
