The Role: SoFi's Cyber Defense organization is looking for an Offensive Security Lead to mature and grow our Penetration Testing and Red Team functions. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who has spent years both doing the work and building the program around it — someone equally comfortable running a red team engagement against a critical banking platform and designing the operating model that lets a small team of offensive operators keep pace with a fast-growing fintech. A defining part of this role is modernizing how the team scales. We're looking for a leader who has already built and implemented AI-assisted penetration testing and red teaming programs — using AI tooling to accelerate reconnaissance, exploit development, attack-path analysis, and reporting — and who can bring that experience to bear on the program. You'll own the strategy, staffing, tooling, and execution quality of both disciplines, report into Cyber Defense leadership, and act as a trusted advisor to engineering, product, and risk partners across the company. About the team Preparedness is a critical Safety Research team at OpenAI, which is focused on mitigating AI threats to global security that could scale to an extreme level of severity. Our work involves: Measurement. Monitoring and predicting the evolving capabilities of frontier AI systems. Mitigation. Keeping misuse safeguards, alignment tools, and security measures on track to adequately address extreme threats that might arise in the future. Coordination. Setting mitigation targets by maintaining OpenAI’s preparedness framework , and partnering with other staff to achieve these targets. About the role As AI agents become more capable at software engineering, and automate more of our internal work, they could become a dangerous cyber threat. People in this role will help OpenAI prepare for security threats from advanced AI agent insiders. In this role, you will: Identify paths by which capable future internal AI agents could compromise OpenAI. Design security controls - focusing on measures with long lead times that benefit from advanced preparation. Stress-test defenses with AI agent evaluations and penetration tests You might thrive in this role if you: Are deeply technical across security and modern infrastructure, and are comfortable digging into the details of operating systems, cloud, containers, CI/CD, or distributed systems. The Cyber vertical turns policy into reviewer standards, calibrated judgment, quality systems, escalation paths, and automation guardrails. ABOUT THE ROLE We are looking for a senior cybersecurity practitioner and operations strategist to raise the quality, scalability, and technical rigor of our Cyber Operations. You will combine hands-on cyber judgment with systems-level operating design: resolve the hardest dual-use questions, evolve SOPs, uplift reviewers and vendors, and build practical tools and automations. This is a senior IC role. Success is not primarily cases closed; it is durable improvement in the operating model and the reviewers who run it. IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL: Drive the Cyber Operations operating model across domain priorities, SOPs, escalation paths, quality health, vendor capability, roadmap inputs and help inform trusted access strategies.
