Member of Technical Staff (AI Software Engineer, Agents)

About the Role The AI Acceleration team’s mission is to make Perplexity the best place to build and ship software with AI agents. We build the infrastructure that engineers and agents rely on, and develop new ways for agents to write, test, review, and ship code. Our work helps teams move from an idea to production faster, without compromising quality or reliability. We own the end-to-end development experience at Perplexity, from the environment where code is written to the systems that ship it to production. That includes local and cloud coding environments, build and test infrastructure, code review, and release management. We’re also building autonomous software development systems, where agents take on increasingly complex engineering work with explicit evaluation, verification, and safety controls. We own both the infrastructure these systems depend on and the workflows that make them useful. As an AI Acceleration Engineer, you’ll turn emerging agent capabilities into dependable systems used across Perplexity. You’ll work directly with engineers to understand where development slows down, experiment with new approaches, and take promising ideas through to production. This role combines systems engineering, developer experience, and hands-on agent development, with a direct measure of success: helping teams spend less time on delivery overhead and more time building products. Responsibilities Identify, prioritize, and deliver the highest-impact opportunities to accelerate how Perplexity builds and ships software with AI. Work directly with engineering and business teams to understand their workflows, constraints, and bottlenecks, and build solutions that address how they actually work. Build and operate the infrastructure that engineers and agents depend on, including development environments, build and test systems, code review, and release tooling. Make our codebases, systems, and internal knowledge easier for agents to navigate, understand, and use through b

About the Role The Enterprise AI Products team builds products that make AI part of how teams work together, not just a tool people use on their own. We bring Perplexity Computer into Slack, Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Office, and MCP server with helping teams collaborate with agents and automate work across conversations, documents, and business systems. That includes workflows that start from a message or business event, carry out multiple steps, and bring people in for decisions and approvals. You’ll build new products from the ground up, working directly with customers to understand their problems and shape what we build next. You’ll combine applied AI engineering with product judgment, moving quickly from prototypes to reliable products that solve recurring problems across many organizations. Ownership extends beyond launch: you’ll use customer feedback and product experiments to improve the experience, grow adoption, and make Computer something teams depend on in their daily work. Key Responsibilities Design and build AI-powered experiences in Slack, Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Office, and the MCP server bringing Computer into the tools where teams communicate, create, and coordinate work. Build workflow and automation products that let teams delegate recurring, multi-step tasks to agents, including scheduled and event-triggered execution, human approvals, and visibility into progress and results. Build shared agent experiences that let teams delegate work, review results, and build on each other’s workflows, with clear ownership and handoffs between people and agents. Work directly with customers and internal teams to identify high-impact problems, validate ideas through rapid prototyping, and turn successful use cases into scalable, reusable products. Own products end to end, from problem definition and technical design through full-stack implementation, launch, and production reliability. Measure and improve activation, repeat usage, and workflow completion,

Requirements 4+ years industry experience Experience in shipping high-quality native applications Architecture experience in writing code understandable by both agents and humans Deep understanding of app performance Ability to own projects and surfaces, and to push them forward proactively

We are hiring builders to define how people talk to, show things to, and hear from AI In 2026, we launched Computer, the defining product for the new era of agentic AI. We've scaled beyond the millions of people using Perplexity every day for research, shopping, investing and curiosity into a new paradigm of using AI to transform knowledge into action. The Multimodal team builds the experiences and infrastructure that move AI interaction beyond touch and text — realtime voice, vision, and the platform systems behind them. We own the full path from a user speaking into a device to an answer coming back: the realtime session infrastructure that connects clients to frontier audio models, the backend orchestration that routes, records, and supervises live sessions, and the SDK that powers voice and multimodal experiences across Perplexity's apps. As a backend engineer on Multimodal, you will design and scale the distributed systems that carry live voice sessions in production — and drive entirely new products at the intersection of voice, vision, and agents. Why Perplexity is Different Craftsmanship. We build high quality, tasteful products targeting both the AI native and AI curious. Ownership. You identify the problem, design the solution and ship it. Entrepreneurship. We think like founders, act with urgency, and hustle to deliver for each other and our users. Scholarship. Work among highly talented peers, pursuing knowledge and truth, upleveling ourselves, our teams, and our products. Partnership. We amplify each others' strengths, break down silos, and give selflessly to help our colleagues deliver excellence. What you'll do Design, build, and scale the backend session-worker architecture that powers realtime voice: durable per-session workers, provider routing, and stateful streaming over gRPC. Own distributed-systems problems end-to-end — session lifecycle, crash recovery, reconnection and replay, multi-region deployment, and graceful degradation under real produ
