As a Software Engineer in Global Retail, you'll shape how customers discover, browse, and buy retail products - apparel, beauty, electronics, auto parts and more - across Wolt, DoorDash and Deliveroo. Retail is a large growth opportunity for the business, and our mission is to be the most trusted and magical way to shop the brands and local stores customers love. You'll play a key role in making that real - from product discovery through to shopping experience in the apps millions of people use every day. You’ll join an evolving area where we are replacing and improving parts of the existing consumer apps, building specific retail journeys within large-scale B2C applications. This means working in a complex environment where multiple teams own different parts of the same app, and where strong technical judgment is needed to create consistency, quality and speed across teams. Collaborate with product managers, designers, and frontend developers to ship features that support internal support agents across the globe. Design systems that are scalable , resilient , and easy to maintain. Lead and contribute to architectural discussions and technical decision-making. Write well-tested code and help the team maintain high code quality standards. Our humble expectations: 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a proven track record of building and scaling complex systems. 2+ years of production experience in Golang , with the ability to mentor others and drive best practices across the team. Strong hands-on experience with both SQL and NoSQL databases — especially Cassandra. Solid understanding of designing and operating low-latency, high-throughput distributed systems . Nice to have Background in Node.js or other backend languages. Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP) and event-driven architectures. Previous on-call experience , with a pragmatic approach to reliability and incident management. About the team We, the Marketing Tech team, are looking for a passionate and driven Golang/Python Backend Software Engineer. We are a product-focused team that emphasizes enabling the scaling and efficiency of campaigns and marketing efforts both inside and outside of Wolt. The MarTech team is currently building internal services around marketing and consent use-cases to allow our marketing stakeholders to drive marketing campaigns in and out of the app, and ensure we provide and maintain a compliant experience throughout the whole process. We empower marketing with the tools to fully set up and run their campaigns independently so as not to be blocked by product or engineering. In our team, you can expect to face many different types of projects across the realm of acquiring users and keeping them engaged. You’ll work on both maintaining and expanding existing services, as well as planning and designing new ones. Our project types vary a lot, from services used in the core Wolt flow, services for automation or to enable our Marketing teams, ETL jobs, as well as streaming processing workers. Who We Are Global Marts builds the technology behind DoorDash's own grocery and retail operations across DashMart, Wolt Market, and Deliveroo Hop. Our systems decide what products our stores stock, how much inventory to purchase, which vendors to source from, how warehouses execute orders, and what prices customers see. We build everything from forecasting and replenishment systems to vendor management, warehouse execution, labor scheduling, space optimization, and pricing. Our in-house forecasting platform has replaced third-party solutions and now powers production globally. This isn't a traditional CRUD backend environment. Much of our work involves designing new systems that solve complex operational problems at global scale. What You'll Do As a Senior Backend Engineer, you'll work primarily with Go or Kotlin and take end-to-end ownership of production systems and complex technical initiatives. About the Team Merchant EMEA Engineering builds the technology that helps merchants join, grow, and operate successfully across our markets. Our organization brings together the strengths of Wolt and Deliveroo and supports merchants across 37 countries. We work across the merchant journey, including onboarding, business growth and support, analytics and recommendations, menu and order management, integrations, and merchant applications. Our teams sit close to the business.
