Datadog's Digital Experience Monitoring (DEM) group is one of the company's fastest-growing product areas, spanning Real User Monitoring (RUM), Product Analytics, Synthetic Monitoring, Feature Flags, and Datadog Studio, our newest AI-native observability surface. As Director, you will own engineering for one or more of these product areas, with scope shaped by your background and interests, and you will manage 50-60 engineers through a team of Engineering Managers. You'll partner with Senior Directors and product leadership to shape the roadmap, not just execute against it, and you'll help drive AI adoption across engineering tooling, workflows, and product features. This role is based in Paris, one of Datadog's most established engineering hubs, with a clear growth path to Senior Director for the right candidate. At Datadog, we place value in our office culture - the relationships that it builds, the creativity it brings to the table, and the collaboration of being together. We operate as a hybrid workplace to ensure our employees can create a work-life harmony that best fits them. What You'll Do: Own engineering for one or more DEM product areas with scope calibrated to your background and strengths Manage 50-60 engineers through a layer of Engineering Managers; this is a manager-of-managers role Shape the roadmap alongside product leadership rather than simply executing against it — push back on, iterate on, and help author the strategy for your area Drive AI adoption across the engineering org, from tooling and workflows to product features and team practices Navigate cross-team dependencies across DEM, APM, Core Platform, AI Platform, and Data Science Build and retain engineering talent in Paris, mentor Engineering Managers toward Director readiness, and participate in the on-call rotation Who You Are: You have directly managed Engineering Managers, not just individual contributors — this is a non-negotiable requirement for the role You integrate

Today, organizations struggle to ensure their most important digital experiences are working as intended because observability data is scattered across products and siloed in logical layers of their technical stack. We're building the system that fixes this: Journey Monitoring, a single centralized hub that brings together Real User Monitoring (RUM), Synthetics, and Product Analytics to bridge the gap between system health and user success. You'd be building a product that establishes a new functional observability layer, enabling teams to auto-discover journeys, track conversions and uptime side-by-side, and trace root causes across their full stack without cross-team handoffs. What you'll do: Drive the product vision and roadmap spanning the Journey Monitoring hub, including the journey map, details reports, automatically inferred journeys, and cross-product data federation. Own the end-to-end product lifecycle from discovery to launch, working with a cross-functional team of engineers, designers, and other PMs across the Digital Experience Monitoring (DEM) products. Deeply understand the needs of distinct key personas: SREs and engineers (who monitor uptime and troubleshoot technical performance), product managers (who track conversion and investigate behavioral drop-offs), and business leaders (who care about outcomes and revenue impact). Design the functional observability layer that makes end-to-end flow monitoring intuitive — including the auto-discovery of user journeys from real traffic, Experience Level Objectives (XLOs), and seamless Bits AI integrations for automated root-cause investigations. Define how behavioral data and technical data come together to automatically surface whether a drop in conversion is caused by a technical failure (like a breached SLO) or a behavioral friction point. Engage directly with early customers and internal dogfooding users to iterate on usability, refine the journey map, and optimize the cross-sell and up-sell paths for

About the Team The Statsig team within OpenAI builds the experimentation, feature rollout, dynamic configuration, and analytics systems that help OpenAI ship products with speed, safety, and evidence. Our work sits on the critical path for how product, engineering, research, and go-to-market teams learn from real-world usage and make high-confidence decisions. Statsig began as an independent company focused on helping builders move faster through trustworthy experimentation and feature management. After joining OpenAI, the team began its next chapter: bringing deep product expertise, customer intuition, and mature platform infrastructure into the product development system used by every OpenAI team. Today, teams across ChatGPT, Codex, model measurement, consumer monetization, business subscriptions, developer products, and shared infrastructure rely on Statsig to safely introduce new capabilities, measure impact, and roll changes forward or back with confidence. We are at a defining moment as adoption accelerates and the platform becomes a company-wide standard. About the Role We are looking for an Engineering Manager, Statsig Product to lead the product engineering organization responsible for Statsig’s post-acquisition journey at OpenAI. You will define how experimentation, rollout, configuration, and analytics become a simple, reliable, and trusted part of how every OpenAI product team ships. You will set strategy across multiple product and platform workstreams, build the organization and leadership structure needed for the next phase, and establish the operating model for a platform that serves teams across the company. The right leader can operate across product strategy, technical architecture, organizational design, developer experience, reliability, and executive alignment. You will help preserve what made Statsig strong while integrating it deeply into how OpenAI launches, measures, learns, and makes product decisions. In this role, you will: Build, lead,

This role is based in San Francisco, CA. We use a hybrid work model of 3 days in the office per wee
About the Team: The Database Systems team specializes in high-performance distributed databases. Our team built Rockset, the real-time search, analytics, and vector database that powers all vector search and retrieval augmented generation (RAG) at OpenAI. In addition to retrieval, as an online database, Rockset powers core functionality across all of OpenAI's product lines and many critical internal use cases. About the Role : We are looking for engineers passionate about distributed systems, close-to-the-metal performance optimization (our core engine is written in C++), and building scalable database infrastructure from the ground up. As an engineer on the Database Systems team, you'll contribute to the core database engine, driving improvements across ingestion, query execution, indexing, and storage. You'll partner with teams across OpenAI to unlock new product capabilities and help scale online database reliability and throughput as usage grows by orders of magnitude. About the Team The Statsig team within OpenAI owns the experimentation, rollout, dynamic configuration, and analytics infrastructure that sits on the launch path for OpenAI products. Our systems help teams ship safely, evaluate product and model changes in production, and make high-confidence decisions from real-world usage. Statsig began as an independent company built around experimentation, feature management, and product analytics at scale. After Statsig joined OpenAI, the team began the next chapter: bringing that platform expertise and infrastructure into OpenAI as the experimentation and rollout foundation for every product we ship. This is infrastructure with a very direct product consequence. Teams working on ChatGPT, Codex, model measurement, consumer experiences including ads, business subscriptions, developer products, and shared platform systems depend on Statsig to evaluate configurations, move traffic safely, ingest experiment data, serve analytics, and roll changes forward or back when production reality demands it. We are at a critical point in the platform journey. Adoption is accelerating quickly across OpenAI, and the systems that were already important are becoming load-bearing for how the company launches. The infrastructure needs to stay fast under sharply increasing evaluation volume, reliable when more services depend on it, observable enough to debug quickly, and efficient enough to support OpenAI-wide scale. Recent SDK and server-side infrastructure work has already produced measurable wins in latency, reliability, memory usage, and compute efficiency across important services. The next phase is to make those gains systematic: a platform that can absorb rapidly growing product velocity while preserving low latency, data quality, operational safety, and developer trust. Based out of OpenAI's Bellevue office, we are a close-knit team that values in-person collaboration, technical depth, operational ownership, and building infrastructure that

Based out of OpenAI’s Bellevue office, we are a close-knit team that values in-person collaboration, urgency, craft, and impact. We build for other builders, and the best version of this team is one where every OpenAI product team can move faster because the experimentation and rollout layer is dependable, fast, and easy to use.
