About the team OpenAI’s Forward Deployed Engineering team partners with customers to turn research breakthroughs into production systems. We operate at the intersection of customer delivery and core platform development. About the Role This is a founding role. As a Technical Deployment Lead (TDL), you will define how OpenAI delivers complex systems to customers. You will own how they are built, shipped, and adopted. You’ll translate business outcomes into a technical plan, run day-to-day execution across FDEs, Researchers, and Customer Engineers, and partner with customer teams to ensure delivery supports their goals. This is not a management role, however you'll own delivery end-to-end: embedding with customers to map workflows and success criteria, ensuring components ship on time, and leading readiness and change management for adoption. You’ll track progress, manage dependencies, make sequencing decisions, and drive 0→1 prototypes through MVP and scale. You will also share field insights with Product and Research to guide roadmap and priorities. Success will be measured first and foremost by impact - deployments that deliver measurable value against customer goals, drive adoption, and become critical to their workflows. Additional measures of success include delivery reliability (milestones hit, low reopen/churn), operating leverage (patterns reused across deployments), judgment under pressure, and product impact (field signal that shifts roadmaps/architectures). This is a high-trust, high-autonomy role. Success requires deep technical project management expertise, extreme ownership of outcomes, and an ability to immerse in customer workflows and partner with customer teams to solve complex engineering problems at pace. This role is based in Tokyo. We use a hybrid model of 3 days in office and offer relocation assistance. Travel up to 25-50% is required. To succeed in this position you must be fully bilingual—fluent in both Japanese and English (spoken and writt

About Ema Ema is building the world’s leading Agentic AI platform to transform enterprise productivity. We enable organizations to delegate repetitive tasks to Ema, the Universal AI Employee, delivering 10x gains in workforce efficiency, across functions. Founded by former executives from Google, Coinbase, Flipkart, and Okta, our team includes engineers from premier tech companies and graduates of Stanford, MIT, UC Berkeley, CMU, and IITs. We are backed by industry leading investors including Accel, Naspers/Prosus, Section32, and angels like Sheryl Sandberg and Dustin Moskovitz. Headquartered in Silicon Valley and with offices in London, Bangalore and Vancouver, Ema is at the frontier of what Agentic AI can do in production — we ship real systems that run real business processes at scale. The Role You'll be an engineer who builds AI agents in production, sitting close to the customers who depend on them. This is a full-stack engineering job with an unusually short distance between your code and someone's actual workday. You'll write Go and Python, design schemas, build evals, and present your solution to a senior executive at an enterprise - often in the same week. What You'll Do Design and ship production agents. You'll build agents that are mission-critical from day one: embedded in Teams, Slack, intranets, voice lines, and email, taking real actions against SAP, ServiceNow, Workday, and a long tail of systems nobody has heard of. These run at enterprise volume under enterprise scrutiny. Own the full lifecycle. Discovery, build, eval, launch, and the unglamorous months afterward where an agent goes from good to genuinely reliable. Work directly with the people whose problem it is. You'll sit with leaders at global enterprises, extract the process from their heads, and decide what should be an agent, what should be a workflow, and what should stay human. Push your work back into the platform. The best patterns you find in the field become part of Ema's core product

Own flagship deals end-to-end — from identifying the right use case to structuring commercial terms (including outcome-based pricing, license fees, and implementation arrangements) and driving them to close. Embed yourself deeply inside strategic customers: act as a trusted partner with a provisioned account, spend meaningful time onsite, and own delivery outcomes as if you were part of their team. Identify high-impact use cases through close engagement with customer problems and workflows, and collaborate with Forward Deployed Software Engineers to bring them to life. Guide customers on best practices for deploying our products (e.g. ElevenAgents); including agent design, agent orchestration, production readiness to maximize adoption and impact. Scope out potential applications in new industries and expand our AI solutions across different sectors globally. Present the results of our work and proposals for future work to audiences ranging from technical teams to C-suite executives. Collaborate with our Research teams to feed field insights back into ElevenLabs' platform and models, helping shape the roadmap. Build and deliver compelling demos of ElevenAgent
