We are seeking a Staff engineer to design, build, and operate the internal and external Observability stack for the MongoDB platform. Tens of thousands of customers depend on our Observability stack to monitor their database clusters and to generate actionable alerts to safeguard critical workloads. The Collections team is a newly formed team within MongoDB's Observability & Adoption Org focused on making telemetry onboarding and collection significantly easier across MongoDB. We own key parts of the observability collection stack, including onboarding experience, telemetry collection agents across the data and control planes, and ingestion services for metrics, logs, and traces that support both internal and customer observability in MongoDB, driving insights, recommendations, and alerting. Our mission is to reduce friction for teams implementing and iterating on Observability while partnering closely with development teams to instrument their services using shared best practices, helping define the conventions our telemetry should follow, and building collection and ingestion systems that are stable, performant, secure, well-documented, and self-service. We also work closely with the Data Pipeline and Storage & Query teams to help ensure MongoDB has a stable and performant observability stack end to end. This is an opportunity to join a team shaping how observability works across MongoDB and to have outsized impact on both the developer experience and the reliability of the platform underneath it. As MongoDB Atlas and its supporting infrastructure continue to experience rapid growth, the demand for high-cardinality observability data for internal and external use cases means we need to continually innovate and scale our systems to the next level. For example, MongoDB Observability systems need to handle 10’s of billions of metrics time series, all whilst processing petabytes of logs, traces, and events. About Us: AI needs a new infrastructure layer. We're building it at Modal. Every era of computing brought new workloads that previous infrastructure couldn't support: mainframes, databases, and the cloud. Each time, the company that rebuilt the layer underneath defined the decade. AI is no different, except it touches everything instead of one slice, and the window to build the layer underneath it is open right now. Our customers include category-defining companies like Lovable , Ramp , Cognition, DoorDash, and Suno. They rely on Modal for instant GPU access, sub-second container starts, and native storage, so it's simple to serve low-latency inference, fine-tune models, and access production-ready sandboxes at scale. We recently raised a $355M Series C at a $4.65B valuation, led by General Catalyst and Redpoint Ventures. We've crossed $300M+ ARR and grown fivefold since September. Our team includes creators of popular open-source projects (e.g., Seaborn , Luig i ), academic researchers, international olympiad medalists, and experienced engineering and product leaders with decades of experience. About Modal Design Modal is building the future of serverless computing, and the brand that carries that story is still taking shape — You'll join Modal's newly formed Brand team inside our design org as one of its first senior hires, working directly with the Director of Brand Design and Head of Design to build a brand developers recognize instantly and remember. The Role As a staff-level Brand Designer, you will have major influence over every brand surface: the marketing website, campaigns, events, editorial projects like the GPU Glossary and forthcoming publications, and out-of-home work as we scale into larger formats. You'll also be a beacon to external agencies, representing Modal's internal creative voice and making sure the work translates into a system we can actually build on. And as the studio grows, you'll help set its craft standard — guiding and mentoring earl

About the Team ChatGPT is a rapidly evolving system: new capabilities ship continuously, product surfaces change quickly, and usage patterns shift week-to-week. Supporting that pace requires infrastructure that can handle real production constraints—high concurrency, unpredictable traffic patterns, complex dependency graphs, and frequent change. The ChatGPT Infrastructure team builds and operates the platforms that enable fast iteration without compromising performance or reliability. We design shared systems, data paths, rollout mechanisms, and reliability guardrails that teams rely on to ship changes to ChatGPT at scale. We focus on high-leverage infrastructure: primitives and “golden paths” that incorporate operational lessons as defaults, so engineers don’t need to rediscover failure modes, latency pitfalls, or integration issues each time they build something new. About the Role We’re hiring Senior and Staff Engineers to design and build infrastructure systems that underlie ChatGPT and multiply the effectiveness of teams building user experiences. This is not a support-only role. It’s a platform-building role: you’ll define interfaces, develop core abstractions, and create tooling to make safe, fast iteration the norm. Your work will reduce friction, prevent regressions, improve performance, and ensure systems scale gracefully as the product grows. Where You Can Have Impact You might work on one or more of the following areas (without being restricted to any single area): Platform foundations & frameworks: Core libraries, service frameworks, and shared components that standardize system building, integration, and evolution. Scalability & performance primitives: Patterns and infrastructure that reduce tail latency, improve throughput, and keep costs predictable as demand increases. Reliability guardrails: Mechanisms that prevent outages by design—rate limiting, load shedding, dependency isolation, backpressure, safe fallbacks, and robust regression contr
