About the Team OpenAI’s mission is to ensure that artificial general intelligence (AGI) benefits all of humanity. Achieving this goal requires more than cutting-edge research—it demands deep, ongoing engagement with the policymakers, communities, and institutions shaping the future of AI. Our approach is grounded in shared stewardship: we collaborate with communities, educators, stakeholders and frontline organizations to co-create AI tools and practices that reflect real needs and expand opportunity. The Global Affairs team leads this engagement. We cultivate authentic, collaborative relationships to ensure that diverse perspectives inform our work. We work shoulder-to-shoulder with communities — meeting people where they are, listening first, and building solutions together. Through sustained collaboration and shared learning, we co-create pilots, tools, and local programs that reflect real needs; we then partner with public officials and peer organizations to help bring those community-shaped ideas to broader practice. In close partnership with our research, product, and policy colleagues, the U.S. Policy and Partnerships team leads our Global Affairs engagement in the U.S. at the federal, state, and local levels, working across regions to anticipate emerging issues, craft forward-looking strategies, and champion policies that align technological progress with human values. Our mission is to help shape the global conversation on AI and ensure that the benefits of this transformative technology reach people everywhere. About the Role As Engagement and Outreach Lead, you will help lead OpenAI’s efforts to build trusted, long-term relationships with third-party organizations, civic and community leaders, and mission-aligned networks that help ensure AI benefits everyone. THE ROLE Forward Deployed Engineers work directly with the largest and fastest-growing AI companies in the world, owning their technical outcomes on Baseten and taking on the hardest problems in serving and improving models at scale. The work spans the model lifecycle: inference, post-training, and the systems that tighten the loop between them. Act as each account's de facto CTO on Baseten, with final accountability for how their workloads are designed, run, and scaled. Take customer objectives from vague to shipped: frame the problem, define the spec and success criteria, build the PoC, and carry it through to production quickly, using the right tools for the problem. Be the first responder to mission-critical failures including triage, owning the fix directly or route to the owning team and stay accountable until it ships. Build internal systems so that each engagement is faster than the last. This includes tooling and automation for eval and deployment infrastructure, and the recipes and reference implementations that make the product more self-serve.
