Old vs new regime: which is better at 9 LPA?

New-regime income tax is nil at 9 LPA, so the old regime can at best match it. It reaches nil tax only if your deductions beyond its ₹50,000 standard deduction are at least ₹2,97,000 a year. The new regime leaves at least as much in hand.

Why sites show different in-hand numbers for 9 LPA

Calculators disagree because they assume different salary structures, not different tax law. Here is the new-regime monthly in-hand for 9 LPA under each common assumption:

Monthly in-hand for 9 LPA under different assumptions
AssumptionIn-hand a month
Jobiba default: basic 40% of CTC, PF capped at the ₹25,000 wage ceiling₹67,358
Basic at 50% of CTC (the labour codes count at least half of pay as wages)₹66,997
PF at 12% of the full basic (no ceiling)₹66,158
PF capped at the old ₹15,000 ceiling (before 17 September 2026)₹69,758
Gratuity paid outside the CTC₹68,800
No PF deducted₹73,358

Since 21 November 2025 the labour codes treat allowances above half of total pay as wages for PF and gratuity, which is why some calculators use 50% basic. Professional tax is a state levy capped at ₹2,500 a year (Article 276(2) of the Constitution); some states do not levy it. Gratuity is usually paid only after five years of continuous service.

  • Old regime: nil up to ₹2.5 lakh, 5%, 20% and 30% above ₹10 lakh; ₹50,000 standard deduction; rebate up to ₹12,500 for taxable income up to ₹5 lakh.
  • 4% health and education cess on the tax. Surcharge (income above ₹50 lakh) is not needed on these pages.
  • PF: 12% of basic from you and from the employer, capped at ₹25,000 a month of wages from 17 September 2026 (₹15,000 before).

9 LPA in-hand salary: questions

What is the in-hand salary for 9 LPA?

About ₹67,358 a month under the new tax regime, the default for FY 2026-27. Under the old regime it is about ₹64,207 a month when you claim ₹1,50,000 of 80C savings and a ₹25,000 health-insurance premium. Both assume basic pay at 40% of CTC, PF capped at the ₹25,000 wage ceiling, gratuity inside the CTC and ₹2,400 professional tax a year.

Is 9 LPA taxable?

Not under the new regime. After the ₹75,000 standard deduction your taxable income is ₹7,71,692, and the rebate cancels the tax on income up to ₹12 lakh, so income tax is nil.

How does PF change the in-hand salary for 9 LPA?

With PF capped at the ₹25,000 wage ceiling you take home about ₹67,358 a month and ₹3,000 goes to your PF account. PF at 12% of the full basic leaves about ₹66,158; with no PF deducted it is about ₹73,358. The PF money is still yours: it builds in your EPF account.

What is 9 LPA in hand per week and per day?

About ₹15,544 a week (annual take-home divided by 52) and ₹2,214 a calendar day (divided by 365), under the new regime.

9 LPA is how much per month?

9 LPA is a CTC of ₹9,00,000 a year, or ₹75,000 a month. After employer PF and gratuity leave the CTC, gross pay is ₹70,558 a month; in-hand is about ₹67,358.

Why is in-hand salary lower than CTC?

CTC is the employer's full cost. It includes the employer's PF contribution and gratuity, which never reach your bank each month. From the gross that remains, your own PF, professional tax and income tax are deducted before salary is paid.
